Mock Georgian or New England Architecture?

Mock Georgian architecture has become a relatively defacto standard across lots of the South East of England. As an alternative, New England architecture embraces the best of some of the great Queen Anne/ Edwardian architects, Norman Shaw, Lutyens though use of turrets, stone and timber cladding options, creative roof lines and internal spaces.
Which one do you prefer and why?

1930's House facelift help please
Comments (29)Hey So the latest update is that we're still busy with the project but in the closing stages. We've done a lot of work inside more than originally planned we've gutted the house and replaced everything and changed the floor plan to modernise it and make more of an open plan space downstairs. We've done the rear extension which is now dedicated to kitchen with a central island running parallel with the doors . Comments (43)To balance hard modern lines and surfaces I agree that anything that adds 'life' to the room is good i.e. anything colourful, organic, or that reflects individual character. So I would go with some wooden items and/ or a wooden floor, plants to bring life, colourful or interesting textures in the soft furnishings. You don't have to go all out with colourful furniture. You can use cushions and rugs for this and the best thing is they can be changed fairly easily if you fancy a new look at a later stage. Original artwork (painting or sculpture) or interesting lamps are great if you can afford. Photos and books (!) bring personality and show that real people do live here. My rule of thumb is that you don't want your home to look like a showhouse. You want it to have life and to reflect your personality. You don't have to go all crazy cat-lady with loads of kooky clutter but a few elements to break up the monotony will really help. Stellahome, your house looks lovely btw! I also love the idea of using interesting or asymmetrical bookcases. Comments (152)Hi Nicky, my apologies I have only just seen your message. We went for cornforth white Farrow and Ball (which it definitely not white). The shutters are not back open yet but some of them will need to go back on because the large expanses of grey look very grey. The bits next to the white look less austere. The new white garage door with windows has made a big difference. I'd be careful with a very pale grey because if your windows are anything like mine you'll find that they are not actually that white after all.......See MoreHouse makeover ideas please
Comments (33)I may be biased as I grew up in a similar looking 50s chalet bungalow but I like it. Personally before making any changes to the Windows I would add a light-mid colour front door, maybe a nickel porch light and a potted plant in a light colour pot. It all just looks a bit dark to me and I'm not sure the planting is really helping. Apologies for the terrible photoshop but I would change/add some silvery green plants to give contrast against the bricks. If you still don't like it I would reassess then!...See More
