Need design ideas for my Lounge.
Comments (1)Its hard to imagine without any pictures. However, its obviously long and narrow so here are some tips for making a room feel wider! If you place two sofas opposite eachother that creates an illusion of width. Also if you paint the two end walls a darker colour that can make it feel wider. Stick with light colours on the walls to make it feel brighter and wider. Placing a mirror in the centre of one of the long walls can also help, as can having a large rug in the centre of the room. Always light a room from three corners where possible, use lamps. Hope this helps!...See MoreInterior/design ideas for my lounge
Comments (4)I agree that greens would be lovely and restful in the room. However before choosing paint, I would find art and maybe mirrors for the walls, then it will be easier to choose a paint colour against which to display them. You have lots of wall space and it's a great opportunity to inject personality and soul into the room. Spend time browsing everywhere from interiors stores to vintage shops for pieces that appeal to you. Art doesn't need to be expensive, even movie or music posters look great in the right frame. You could also have photos printed onto canvasses- if you have any great landscape or nature shots from holiday for example. Try to find pieces that will work together but don't necessarily 'match'. If you have a swatch of the wallpaper, you might bring that with you when shopping for art. Something else that would change the feel of the room would be to replace the TV stand and the end table with chunky wooden ones. A bookcase or some floating shelves would also add to the warmth of the room, making it feel more lived in. And I would pull the couch away from the wall a little, this actually makes a room feel bigger. Enjoy!...See Morelooking for walk through lounge design ideas
Comments (6)Thank you Carrie, that is really helpful. We originally purchased the larger sofas as I am 6ft 1" and my eldest teenage son, 17, is already taller than me. I also have problems with discs in my neck hence the higher backs of the sofas. I had thought about placing the tv over the fireplace but worried it would affect my neck. To be honest I have thought about putting the tv on a unit against that wall as it does look cramped in its current corner. Since posting this original message I changed the layout of the sofas so the armchair is in the window and the sofa originally in the window is now pulled forward to the middle of the room facing the fireplace. So this gives us a walk through behind the sofa. It seems to make the room more cosy but doesn't make it look smaller. I like your idea of smaller sofas, lighter in colour - our current ones do look bulky in here. Thank you. I am still keen to change the fireplace though- to a similar size but more modern. Thank you for your help Sarah...See MoreDesign ideas - open plan lounge and dining room
Comments (11)I love your idea of having the double doors, which provides you the added choice of having two separate rooms, along side keeping the original fireplace as well as the book shelves in the alcoves. That all sounds like it is going to be very cozy and inviting space once done. Large prints, an injection of textiles (rugs, throws and cushions) and luscious green plaints are also a creative way to make your house feel like a home. Where the fireplace is, it might be nice to create a feature wall. As you are keeping the fireplace, I wouldn’t want this feature to detract from the fireplace itself (I have worked with london fireplace specialists before they are experts in this field, so give them a call to help you get it up and running!) as it is beautiful. Can’t wait to see the end finish!...See MoreCarolina
