Kitchen/Dining/Sitting Area - where to start with layout?
Comments (7)Hi Chloe. I can't design for toffee (nor is to scale etc!) however it might give your thread a bump for those that can:) Personally I would probably employ Karen at OnePlan to design the whole space! Hopefully the plan is self-explanatory but i might look at banquette seating with shelves and conceal a tv over the banquette bench (should be about the right viewing height!). For others to help it might help to give more details. I assume from the plan that you have a separate living room so maybe sofas aren't the priority? It also looks as if you want a study area? What type of oven (and hob) and how many do you want? Do you want a sink or hob on the island? I'm assuming the log burner is to go in the existing chimney breast? Is the room to contain utilities? Do you want a microwave, wine fridge etc? I can see a concealed tv in your ideabook so assume that's on the list? Do you want a pantry/breakfast cabinet etc? How many is dining to seat? If you speak to someone like Karen they will ask lots more questions so as to design the space specifically for your family!...See MoreHeating for Kitchen/dining room to back sit room
Comments (2)Just a cheap but effective solution. We also have a kitchen / diner in an L-shape with a small lounge area attached.................all open plan. We have one large radiator that was heating it. Firstly, I notice that you have no curtains on the window in the middle. All the curtains ( including the window ) should be thermal backed and as thick as you can get to stop the heat going out of the glass. Secondly, the little radiator in the middle of the double doors doesn't look like it is large enough to have an adequate heat output for the size of the room, so I would change that. There are charts on line to work out the size you need, or if you enquire at any decent plumbing merchants, they'll work it out for you. Adding a good depth window sill to under the window will help prevent heat loss up and out of the window too. We bought a ceramic radiator to plug in, in the conservatory as a back up to our larger radiator and it works a treat! Really slimline too. However, the biggest saving on the heat loss is our curtains, which are really, really thick, make sure they cover the sill....See MoreSacrifice Dining Room for a Sitting Room?
Comments (4)Do you have a floor plan with the orangery dimensions if you're not sure a table will fit? Does the kitchen fit a breakfast table? We've got a similar set up in terms of where the dining room and kitchen are located and the dining room is used for entertaining and family meals are in the kitchen. Do you have another use for the room such as playroom, study etc?...See MoreKitchen/dining/living room renovation
Comments (8)Where are any of the tall units such as fridge, oven etc going? If the sink is at the end presumably you’ll be doing any prep work there plus obviously emptying the DW etc. The breakfast bar is a very long distance from there so was wondering if you’d get the sociable area you’re after? It may be worth speaking to a concept planner. A lot of people use OnePlan on here, Karen works remotely, you just give the measurements and wish list and she can plan the whole space rather than just the kitchen as a kitchen designer would. I think seeing it in 3D would help with your decision too...See MorePamela Corrigan
