What are your best de-cluttering tips?
Comments (22)Honestly? I watch HOARDERS on A&E. Nothing motivates me more like the idea of ending up like that. Also during a recent move into a new home the rule was that if I didn't LOVE it, then it stayed in the garage in a "maybe not" pile. After 3 months those items are now ending up on Craigslists for sale and they're turning into cash = savings :) Things that I feel I can donate end up at the thrift stores. After being an AVID follower of DIY sites I am finding SO MANY are into the PUT CRAP IN EVERY SPOT THERE IS just for the sake of making/creating/DIY something. It just ends up making for a "pretty clutter." So I am hoping the trend goes the OTHER Way...the UNCLUTTERED DIYER is my goal! oh and making $500 bucks recently off all that "stuff" sure is a good motivation! ;)...See MoreHouzz Live Chat - How to de-clutter, Friday the 14th at 2pm
Comments (59)A7 for rd66. Furniture is so bulky and I understand the sentimental value. Unless you want your home to be a museum it might be a case of choosing a few favourite pieces and then letting the rest go. It's hard because there is always a bit of your heritage in each piece but remember every antique piece of furniture carries a story - a bit of history. We all treasure that. You might be able to find a lovely home for some of your grandfather's pieces. For the pieces you don't like or have no value.... you know what I'm going to say.... Some people take photographs of the treasured items, or why not a video? It is a way of keeping the memory and then being able to let go of the piece, whether it's china, glass, furniture or ornaments....See MoreJanuary 2016 decluttering challenge!
Comments (61)I'm back - lots of 'stuff' went to charity, house looking better but still a loft full! That will change as I'm selling loads to support both my Church funds and a children's charity which I'm cutting off my hair for!!! They make wigs for children who've lost hair due to cancer. I've got about 10 inches so far and I'm hosting a supper, auction and haircut night in the spring - want to grow a couple of inches more for 2 wigs. It costs the charity £350 per wig so need twice that & I'll be a happy shorthaired bunny. My paid helper is a little prone to not quite finishing jobs so next week it's that, then up in the loft to have a good sort. I WAS a compulsive shopper - she's put paid to that and made me see sense - so all of my beautiful items, brand new, tags on, have to go!!!!! Cathartic or what!...See MoreLounge Design Challenge
Comments (2)Hi Hiro, If your ceilings are low, I would hesitate putting in wood beams, as they tend to make ceiling feel lower. I am unclear to why you want to cover up the closet? Do you plan to enter it from another direction? It is a shame that you are not happy with the way new addition turned out.
