Oh wow, impressive space you have there! It's huge! And thank you - I love my house too :)) Plus I agree with you on the dining room - only good for dusting :)) Regarding wood vs carpet: we chose Engineered Character Oak in brushed oil - mainly because, having to completely renovate the house, we decided to go for underfloor heating top to bottom; and engineered wood is apparently the best type of wood to use with it. Therefore, carpeting was out for us however, even with central heating, we would've probably gone for wooden flooring and a lush rug. But that is a personal preference; as with the en-suites, I have rather strong opinions against carpet, so I don't think I'm the best person to advise you in this respect. (hmmm, now I'm starting to get what hubby means about me being high maintenance...) Sorry I couldn't help more, I'll try to do better in the future :))

Hello. How about keeping the part of the kitchen that looks over the back garden as a utility room?Then use a combination of the rest of the kitchen, dining room and a squared of sun room to become the new kitchen/ diner. The sun room name gives me the clue that this may well be the best spot in the house so this should be part of where you spend most of your time, the new kitchen. The front door stays where it is but is made more of a feature with a nice porch. Having a kitchen diner that goes from the front to the back of the house (ie with utility room) takes away having to turn the house around. Your other reception rooms will seem small by comparison but you really will spend the majority of your time in this new space.

I think that's an old Antique bed that's been painted and re-upholstered. The chest of drawers is almost certainly an original Victorian, although granted, there are good copies about. A lot of French beds such as Corbeille types were upholstered. Those studs you can buy all over the place, they come in strips that you nail every fourth or sixth one in. The little chairs look like originals, the only bit of furniture that is probably modern but painted the same is the table in the middle of the chairs. They vary a lot in price depending on from whom and where you buy them. My wife was an antique dealer for many years and used to trade on Ebay. I had a quick look on there.................this one profecssionally done is really nice:- French Depot on Ebay

Do you plan to have a double bed in each room including your master? Having a 4 bedroom house, can give you the space to have a super king in your master bedroom which would balance the space out. Going with the 4 bedroom idea and having a larger master en-suite - it feels like there is a lot of empty unusable corridor space. I think this could be tweaked to make it a fabulous space... Just a brief look at your space, you have 3 wardrobes - could you make the middle one a door into the en-suite, allowing you to have a larger rectangle walk in shower opposite the bath. You could have also have drawers / dressing table on the wall as you come into the bedroom. Think about where the door to the master bedroom would be as it would ideally be balanced around the windows in the corridor. Presuming the windows are fixed. Could bedroom 2 have the door where the 5 bedroom layout is allowing more space for your bedroom door? The A/C cupboard - do you need it? Could you make it wider and smaller depth or a wardrobe for yourselves? It's a little difficult without measurements to work it all out... This is an example of the idea I suggested above. (We are towards the end of renovating our place and we changed it from 5 bed to a 4 but added an en-suite into each room. We don't miss the useless little box room!)
