Should I paint my fireplace.
Comments (10)Hi there, Personally, I would definitely paint your fire place/ mantle. I think they are both very lovely but really could do with a lift. The only trouble is, how easy would it be to strip, prime and repaint these two. The next question is - what colour scheme is this room or do you hope it to be? I think sticking to a neutral tone would be best, but if you have a bold taste then you will need to pick up a few samples and see what would work best! Comments (6)It does not require it but you would need to clean really well to get an even and clean covering. It usually needs more than one coat I find.. but you will need to see dependent on the colouring. It can be OK but only as a temporary fix and you need to take your time and do it properly as mistakes are really hard to change once you start painting - a run in it for example. It then also very noticeable. Personally if you hate it and it doesn't go with the new room your starting to create then I think go for it. It's a cost effective way to make you happy until you can change it later. I appreciate you can not see too well on the picture but these black tiles in this photo have been painted as the client was on a very tight budget and didn't want to rip the bright green ones off and start again! http://www.createperfect.co.uk/press?lightbox=dataItem-iqwcsy178 All the best, Gina...See MoreWhat should I do with my fireplaces?
Comments (8)The one in the last bedroom is really nice. However, the other two don't have great facades. I'd remove the stonework and change them for something more attractive. I'd keep the actual fireplaces though, especially in the living areas. For instance - the lounge one could have the top row of stone removed to make it a nicer shape. You could then use 'stone spray' available in lots of DIY stores to give the existing stone a makeover. I'm guessing however, that the dining area and lounge have been knocked through and are one room. Therefore, making both fireplaces identical would be better. The one in the dining room is not original and the stone hearth is broken and a little in the way. Removing all of it would be preferable. Maybe you could replace both with whole fireplaces like these:- Flames.co.uk Finish stripping the floors, add slightly longer curtains as they don't cover the sills. Put a mirror above the fireplace, add a rug?...See MoreShould I paint my pine bookcases?
Comments (25)What a gorgeous room! Cromarty is so lovely- in my last house I was planning to use it, but here it’s just a touch too green for me, sadly. I envy you your lovely picture rail; mine has been developed out but at least they left the Edwardian coving! For the bookcases I love both Minnie’s suggestions above. The plaster is soft and playful and evokes rose gold. The pigeon is so effortlessly sophisticated and would really showcase books, treasures etc....See MoreDaisy England
