Suggestions needed - matching wall and ceiling lights for dining room

I'm just redecorating my dining room. It's a cottage in Cornwall and one wall is granite stone, another is taken over by the staircase. I'm looking for matching wall and ceiling lights but am struggling to find any I like. The design of the room is going to be mainly white walls with a scandi feel. I like the idea of ceiling lights that sit low over the table but would also like a wall light. Can anyone recommend anything. I'd be looking to pay a max of around £300 for both

Hi Karen. Is there any reason you want matching lights? I think for a scandi scheme I'd look at some form of swing arm wall light with a pendant for the table. The lights can have a nod to each other in terms of colour, material, shape etc but if you go for something quite simple and clean design wise I think they'll work anyway

You could try Jim Lawrence, they do lots of really beautiful lighting and have so many finishes to choose from so even if the pendant and wall lights aren't in exactly the same 'range' you can make sure the colour or finish matches so they tie in.

Hi. Just a thought but do you need/want the wall lights? Could you not just change the ceiling lights and add floor lights? We had wall lights in our georgian house and removed them all rather than trying to find decent replacements. I know wall lights are back in at the moment and particularly for industriał style but it may be the easy option. If this works then there are lots of fantastic ceiling lights around at the moment

I love this colour but think that you won't notice the dark kitchen cabinets. To make your existing furniture stand out I think you need contrast. I think the earlier suggestion of orange is fun but to include the Brinjal I would paint the walls green and then add pops of the brinjal. Perhaps if you get some light picture frame add a border of brinjal to give them more presence. Alternatively hang inexpensive canvasses - I would choose three long thin ones and paint one and either wall paper in a similar colour or staple on fabric to add pattern.

Hi Julia, it's a bit difficult making suggestions from a distance without seeing and 'feeling' the space but you have several options... pendant lights are certainly one, as Pavilion Broadway has suggested. You could have several dotted around the space, even hanging them at different heights - which could be fun. Alternatively you could use LED strip lighting around the room - this gives a very modern look and of course could be used in conjunction with other types of lighting. The attractive vaulted ceiling means you will be looking up at it so you don't want to be blinded by spotlights pointing down and remember you'll occasionally need to change bulbs so whatever you install make sure it is accessible. Depending on how you decorate and furnish the room you could consider a variety of lighting that works from the floor upwards. I think we are too often stuck on the idea that lights have to come down from the ceiling. They don't. Hope that helps but will be happy to discuss further. Best wishes, it looks a super project. I'm trying to figure out if that sofa is sitting back flush against the breakfast bar? A quick sketch of the floorplan would help. I think you're trying to squeeze a lot of different pieces of furniture into one room - bookcase, linen cupboard and console table. It could end up looking very cluttered and cramped. My instinct would be to get a good carpenter to build one bespoke piece that can accomodate everything - bookshelves above, cupboards below, and made to measure spaces for tv and hifi. A custom built unit can be pricey but you get exactly what you need, plus builtin furniture transforms a room into something cosy and homely. I'd use most of the wall where the Olympic Games poster is. The tv should be towards the corner where the tub chair is presently, and i'd use the smallest tv possible! Consider having the unit spraypainted in a colour rather than plain oak- this would really add personality.

Like mentioned above it doesn't have to be from the same range as long as the lights have matching features.
