Need help for my kitchen

Kitchen beginning to look somewhat tired and dated. Wondering about short-term cost effective ideas to modernize and brighten up, without ripping it all out and starting from scratch. Kind of an L-shape design with office, utility room and living room/dining area leading off kitchen area. Cooking area could be brightened up to reflect light.

Colours I'd go for are whites or pale greys. Many Houzzers have found Little Greene Paint Company Eggshell to be hard wearing for kitchen cabinets.

You could also update the tiles with tile paint if you wish, but I've personally found if it's used near water it will only last a couple of years before it starts peeling and chipping but is fine in dry areas. Instead you could tile over the top of your tiles with mosaics - a modern hexagon design would look great.

There are worktop updating kits out there, can't comment how good they are. However blue is very fashionable at the moment, so you may as well work with them as they are, especially as the floor is also blue.

Hi - just checking in before I shut down the computer ! Thank you Joe !!! Roselyne, love the photos !! Looks so quaint !!! So, France ! Much more liberal with regard to planning (phew!!) how lovely ! Yes, that cottage look would fit in so well !!! The last project I did in France was an old watermill in Rennes - beautiful location - but a nightmare to find a good furniture manufacturer !! There are kitchen companies that can replace the doors, plinths and end panels etc thus completely changing the colour of your kitchen but using existing units. One I know if is Dream doors which my neighbour used to go from dark wood to cream and I cannot tell they are the old units. I like your kitchen, the layout seems good. I feel whats making it feel a bit dated is the amount of orangey pine or similar wood. Even changing the door knobs would help. If you wanted a greater change, a handleless slab kitchen in either a matching cream as the aga, or a grey might work? As an aside, changing the colour of the floor might help too.

Hi, What aspects of the kitchen is it that you dislike? (colour combination, style, just the units, etc) What sort of look are you trying to achieve, you don't have an ideas book for a kitchen so it would be useful to get an overview of your style please? The easy solution without ripping anything out would be to paint the cabinets/ walls and see what the kitchen looks like, maybe try some coloured accessories or add colour and textures through plants or rugs. I'd keep the cooker black to match the rest of the units as the Fridge Freezer is already different. I'd have a plain high gloss worktop to get the light back in to the room, maybe white. I'd consider having the tall bank of units in white too, because the room is so narrow it's going to feel crowded with the tall units in black. I must admit the room plan above has me a little confused. The door has disappeared from the top right corner and looks to be replaced with two small windows and I can't see the door marked anywhere. Where is the door? You've also lost a metre off the length and it's now 5915mm instead of 7m.Looking down the kitchen with black tall units looking down the kitchen with white tall units. I think maybe i'd get a concept planner on board first as I think the plan needs work, it does look like a long narrow corridor with far too much on one side, too high, not enough on the otherside etc.

you can also consider changing the doors only. Different door design and colour all together. ad remove some units to either to integrate an office space and perhaps removing the cornice and wall units either side of the window to allow more light o come in.

I'd suggest installing a sun tunnel to brighten up the darker corner. The added daylight will make your kitchen feel more comfortable and spacious, as well as less reliant on light bulbs. They're not terribly expensive to buy and get installed but will make a huge difference.

Hi there I would start by getting rid of all the over head cupboards which will make it feel less crowded and bring in tonnes more light! Will also be more user friendly when you are preparing food on the workroom. I feel they make it incredibly crowded. Yes the storage is great but decluttering and selective kitchenware is all you need - good luck
