Comments (4)What is important is first to look at the function. The room will sometimes be full of children and families, can they all fit? A small chair and table with books can be a boon to make little ones feel at home. The elderly need a higher seat preferably with arms, while some who have just had surgery prefer to stand and a standing desk shelf is good, with a writing area to fill in questionnaire for health and feedback. Is there hanging space for coats, hats, shopping, suitcases, musical instruments, prams, wet umbrellas, wheelchairs and all the paraphernalia the public carry with them. My first floor dental surgery waiting room looked out onto the street and I had a wonderful display of flowers in the window box which like the tropical fish tanks of older surgeries is a great reliever of tension. There needs to be spaces to display treatments available, a comments book and box for feedback and Space for magazines and pamphlets. Do you need a notice board? Colours of walls and furniture need to be calming yet bright, cheerful and easy to clean. Do you need a mirror? People like to check their appearance before leaving. It can also be placed to find patients who slipped in when reception was busy and tuck themselves around the corner and you think they are late. When all this is taken into account it needs to be personal reflect the warmth of welcome by yourself and staff. We had patients who didn't have an appointment just came in for a quiet rest. Comments (11)As I mentioned you could go further with the Open Plan idea. I decided not to put the doorway in the 'new kitchen' ( old dining room ) in to the downstairs cloakroom and use it as a Utility because:- The shape it creates would mean that it wouldn't work well as a combined loo and utility, and there's no need for a separate utility with a large kitchen and integrated appliances It's better to have a downstairs loo and cloakroom than a Utility and no downstairs loo. It's not great to have the entrance to the loo from the kitchen. . This is what it would look like. I agree with Jonathan on the size of the lounge. I think if you go more open plan as above, it will seem more spacious without doing to much work apart from a steel and removing the large portion of the kitchen wall. Comments (7)They should absolutely have put acro props in. These are steel props which look flimsy but carry a surprising amount of weight. My mum's just doing this with her flat. The buildings inspector came round and specified how many props and where they had to go before anything was touched. The RSJs were specified by a structural engineer and also passed by the building inspector. It's a vital part of getting it passed by building regs without which you'll have serious problems when you come to sell, even if it is safe. If there are acro props up, get in touch with building regs before it goes any further.If there are no acro props up, phone another builder and ask them if they can put some props up ASAP. A good builder should automatically prioritise it over any other jobs they have since it's a super quick and also urgent job but will probably want it in writing that someone else took the wall down. Also get in touch with building control (building control is the department which issues building regs and will send a building inspector). The exception to all this is if the wall is not structural but that's unlikely if there's a floor above it and impossible if there's another wall directly above. Also, your builder must by law have public liability insurance for if this sort of thing goes wrong. I can't give any sort of time frame for this. It's likely that any damage is already done but possible that cracks are propagating over time and may cause more damage if you leave it. It's entirely possible everything will be fine even without props. Comments (10)Thank you. Looking at what you have drawn, which is cool by the way, having the dividing doors the other side of the door would result in having a small room at the front (approx 2x3m). Preferably would like it where it used to be which is the beam on one of the photos. If room so small not sure how we would use it?...See More

7 years agoI just think by introducing another pattern for the cushions, maybe a floral, will make it slightly less formal. Cushions shown in the pic complement but do not all match. You could try the long sofa there or swap your small sofa with the chairs. Both the art and mirror (by eye!) look to be the right size wherever you have the seating. Are you in the states or is your profile location wrong?

7 years agoHi muntaha2010, I agree with Lynn, there is also to many chairs for me, do you need so much place to seat? If not I would leave just one sofa, the one on the left and get rid of the other one which is by the window. About accessories... the vases should not have regular and repetitive patterns , something simple and natural ...
It would be good to feel them up with some flowers or make some Ikebana with dry plants so you don't need to worry to change the flowers all the time...
As I mentioned before the mirror set may look nice but because of its aggressive and sharp shape and I would replace it with some artwork. How about some pictures? There small ones, one next to another?
About the plants... I would place one big one in the empty corner on the left side of the entrance, one little one on the coffee table in the middle of your room and maybe one more middle size on the left side of the window. /Marcin
