These were the client's own chairs which were reupholstered and refinished

Thank you for everyone's comments, had no idea this thread would prove so popular when I started it. We are plastering this week and we have finally bought most things for the kitchen. I did find some real 'finds' though if anyone is looking. Not sure where you are based, but regarding electrical goods we researched all our own and narrowed down our list, and once we had that we looked online for the best prices for each appliance. Instead of buying from lots of different places we took it to Bentalls, who not only matched, but also cost us less, and beat some online prices with a good 'deal' price they also then will hold on to them until you need them, but if anything goes wrong you have 'bentalls' rather than several online dealers to return items to. RDO Appliances also do this if there is one near you, but i'd advise you to research prices first. Another thing we found was inserts for the kitchens. Through our kitchen supplier these were expensive, bin inserts, pull out drawers, pull out larders, even the pop up sockets, sourced seperately through ebay and online we managed to save quite a lot of money by doing this, so our fitter will still have the right things on the day, but we are not getting the inserts from the supplier. What else..... erm kitchen worktop, unbelievably the exact same worktop, same material, same cut outs etc.. same sizes differed between suppliers by 3k! so do shop around for your quartz and granite.

Thank you so much Tani, Carolina and So-Real for taking the trouble to reply and for such good ideas and photos as well! I am torn between which way to go! If I box up to the window sill should I go up to the left hand corner of the room next to the current basin but presumably this will affect the basin width-wise if I do put it there? The current one is 60cm wide so I could get away with the protrusion as the boxing is already there but would it look ok coming out along there? Or as you say I could put the toilet where the sink is and add a basin on a countertop under teh window. The window sill is 86cm high and I cannot seem to get the dimensions for one of the countertop ones on Google which is frurstrating but will keep trying! In my other bathroom the sink height is 82cm so that could possibly work.... What do you think? Thanks again

ash4711 I agree, I grew up with a house full of Gplan teak furniture that my father bought from a complete Showhouse sale on one of his sites. I loved it then and still do, looking in so many design articles here and on other sites that style of teak furniture from the 20th century seems to come up most. Various members of my family still have most of that Showhouse furniture from the '70s.

Hi - thanks for taking the time out and providing an interesting response. I think its great that you are confident in your own style enough to implement them in your interiors. A lot of the clients I come across don't necessarily know what their style is and tend to stick to safe items and colours. Basically whites and IKEA! I totally agree with you on having items which appeal to you and I proactively practice this in my designs, that they need to be about you. Collecting items, art, memorabilia are all things I take into consideration and give ideas to my clients as how and where to buy them if they don't have them already. For example, a recent client of mine was French however his home had no French art work whatsoever, in my designs I suggested a few French prints and where to get them from. I too wouldn't like it if someone were to tell me what to buy especially if it was not to my taste. I always provide my client with at least 2-3 floor layout options, so the choice is always theres - my job is to use my design skills to create the best design that suits them and their lifestyle. Not to mention the 3D renderings which I love to create and are loved by my clients. They give ideas how a room can look and never forced upon. I always provide several furniture options sometimes 4 if I get carried away and again the point of it is to give the client the ideas to help achieve their goal, not to dictate to them. Plus I get up to 20% off trade stores like John Lewis, West Elm, Habitat even on paint! So clients see the huge savings they are making just by hiring a designer who provides them with not only designs but trade discounts too! Thank you so much for your question, it's so interesting to see how other people view Interior Designers.
