Paint choice for internal doors

Have a snug lounge with white low units and brown leather sofas. I am thinking of painting the white internal doors a nice grey colour. Or should I paint them white?

I am considering paining all of my doors grey. So yes go for it. F & B pigeon is lovely too

I have similar (fire)doors in my flat and painted one of them white. Not a great look. T Gray's association with a fire exit comes close. :) I can't quite make out whether I like the look in combination with the black posts etc.or not. It looks good in the close up, with quite a retro feel to it, but perhaps within the context of the the house they may well be a bit of an eyesore. In that case, yes replace them.

It’s ‘eggshell’, so it has a subtle sheen which I think works really well with timber doors. The colour is Farrow and Ball’s Off Black. I would advice against a pure black (if there’s such a thing...) which can look too stark. Are you considering other colours for your doors as well as (near) black?

Sorry I haven't read the comments (too many) but if you are considering keeping them, I'd send them off and get them dipped. If they come back in one piece then go from there. It may be they come back with a lot of damage, some panels may need to come out - but you can always update with fluted glass panels etc. If they come back and were full of filler etc and bad condition then sand, fill, sand again and paint a dark shade. You can make them look beautiful if you want to. It may be they come back in good condition! In which case you can stain and keep natural. I'd probably replace all the hardware though.

For anyone else reading this thread, you can now get aluminium internal sliding doors either frame or surface fixed. These come fully glazed, in the steel look and even as frameless glass sliding doors. Happy to help with product advice and suppliers if you'd like to get in touch. Hope this helps Kind regards, Nick

I'm thinking a rich grey for the doors, skirting and architraving, go much darker than the walls. Maybe on the tv unit too, seems a little flat against the wall colour which he s lovely

Personally, I wouldn't go for a colour that's darker than your walls - that would make all the woodwork a real feature, and that's not normally what people like! I'd be tempted to go for a slightly paler version of what's on your walls (is that grey?!) - somewhere between white and the wall colour. That'll take the starkness of the white away and make the walls and paintwork blend together a bit more, which should also make the space feel bigger.

Still think a bit of contrast with those doors and skirting would work...
