BATH TAP DILEMMA - NEED HELP!

Hello,

I'm hoping someone can help!

I'm having a new bathroom fitted and I'm struggling to know which tap solution will be best for my built-in bath. We already have a separate shower in the bathroom so I was planning on using the bath as a bath only with no shower facility or shower head, however I'm concerned about cleaning it! I have two kids under 5 and another on the way.

I was advised to go with a Hansgrohe Exafill bath filler. I therefore have no tap and also no shower handset. Having no tap sticking out of the end or the middle of the bath is a plus so kids won't bang their heads on it but not having a shower handset is a concern.

I could change to having a 5-piece wall or deck mounted set but I don't like the idea of a shower hose hanging in my bath for the kids to muck about with. I've also heard that the concealed shower handsets can leak and can be problematic.

Can anyone advise what might be the best solution as I'm struggling to find one.

I'd go for the option with shower attachment. Cleaning the bath without one is a pain if you're used to doing it with a shower attachment. TBH, your children are at an age when you're not going to leave them on their own in the bath so messing with the shower hose or banging their head is much less likely to happen.

I have found that this solution works really well for us. No taps on bath (big plus after silicone/limescale issues) and the hair rinsing shower hose is fantastic. It loops round and looks quite neat. Wouldn't change anything.

Crosswater's Totti range looks similar and has various options which might suit you. I have a similar bath and have used a bath filler which combines with the overflow and then have hot and cold panel valves mounted on the corner near the wall on the curved end of the bath. The advantage of this is that the plumbing is accessible by taking the bath panel off, should you wish to replace the valves etc. There isn't a Totti panel valve but as these are low profile I think you could get away with using a round panel valve.

I agree that contrasting finishes can look more interesting...think contrasting bag and shoes! Black and chrome would work fine, as would black and brass (and definitely on trend). And you're right, if you live in and around London, you have hard water scale build up to deal with. Just be aware, brass fittings take more care (and are more expensive)...i.e. more time in cleaning and you have to be careful with what you clean them with. If not cared for properly, they will eventually go black - literally! So, if you love scrubbing, then brass does look great...but if you'd rather be doing something else with your time, beside polishing your brass taps to perfection...then chrome is more practical. Hope that helps!

Hi, Need a bit more info; Is it a traditional bath or modern? Have you got a picture/link? Do you want a hand shower by the bath for cleaning and use in bath? Is the bath surrounded by stud walls or does it have to be floor standing? What is your budget? Vado you can be looking at £600+, Hansgrohe £1800+ but you can get discounts. Cheaper, unsufficiently supported floor taps are wobbly so I'd really avoid. Sounds more like a modern tub bath to me - would be great to see pictures :)

You can have an exofiller (so you don't have the taps in the bath, the only sensible solution with kids I think). Then you can have a handset that is hung on the wall next to the bath
or sits within a shelf alongside a bath (see recessed bath photo below), deck mounted is the phrase some bathroom suppliers use

and you need a diverter on your valve (either one or two depending if you want the hot and cold separate or a manual mixer).
