Comments (2)I think contrasting with a plain fabric would be a good idea with perhaps a plain contrast colour edge on the curtain. If you like blues you might like our Inky Sky printswww.zoeglencross.com with which you can blend patterns eg a stripe and bird print or stripe and herringbone print for a good balance. Your fabric choice is lovely though so perhaps you might like our linens for another project another time. All the best. Z...See MoreCurtains, blinds or shutters?
Comments (8)Whatever you do, do not have pure silk curtains, unless you are prepared to fit a blind as well. I made the mistake of buying silk curtains from Laura Ashley five years ago and they have started to fray at the edges. I do blame myself as I knew silk was not as durable as synthetic but I fell for them and hoped by having them lined and interlined they would be ok. I was wrong, as they are in a bedroom with great views I really didn't want to fit a blind as well. I am going to have to now and have the curtains repaired, by putting an edge on them in a different colour, they were far too expensive to change for new curtains as the window is very wide and the curtains are floor length, plus, they look good in the room, apart from the fact they are fraying! To start with I might just swop the curtains over, rather than have them altered, but I am certainly having a roller blind fitted, it will have to be plain white and in use when nobody is staying, luckily the bedroom is a guest room....See MoreBlinds/curtains for new flat
Comments (5)Hi there, congratulations for having your first place! Moving into a new place is always exciting, but especially when it's your first place together. Let's start with practical issues. For the bedrooms the main thing is that you have proper blackout to guarantee a good sleep. You can combine a blackout roller blind with full lenght curtains (so you can have lighter curtains) or full lenght curtains with a blackout lining (normal lining isn't usually enough to blockout the light). It doesn't sound like a big deal, but if you want to sleep a bit later in the morning or happen to be unwell, it is really nice to be able to make the bedroom as dark as possible. The kitchen curtains depend on how close to the sink and the hob they are. If the window is on the other side of the room than the hob, then curtains are ok. But if the window is right next to the hob, I don't recommend having curtains as they go horrible in no time. In the living room you don't necessarily need blackout curtains so you can choose to have lighter curtains which are mainly for decorative purposes and to add texture to the room. One thing to take into consideration is insulation. In many houses windows can be really drafty and come winter, you may wish you had chosen thick curtains to keep the cold out. Wheather you go for roman blinds or full lenght curtains really is a matter of taste, but you also need to consider what works best for the size of the windows you have, if there is space for full lenght curtains (for example, you might have a radiator under the window in which case full lenght curtains may not be the best option). All curtain options have a different look, so I suggest you first decide what kind of a look you want to achieve in each room and then see which curtain option best delivers that look (taking into account practicalities). Hope this helps, Kati...See MoreAdvice needed - blinds/curtains
Comments (14)Hi Lucy, Have you considered roller blinds on the french doors like the photo below? We installed these sunscreen roller blinds on the actual doors as they open inwards too. When fitting blinds to french doors, you need to make sure that the blinds clear the door handle and the hinges. Here is another example of sunscreen roller blinds we installed to the actual french doors. Here's an example of roller blinds from our 'basics' range which we fitted to a set of french doors and windows.
