Need help designing our dream kitchen please!

We have recently moved and want to completely rip out the existing kitchen. We have a number of areas we want to improve in the house so want to accomplish this within a reasonable budget but with a high end luxury finish. We don't want to make any structural changes in terms of an extension, just want to revamp in the space we have. However, all the units, worktops, appliances and tiles etc are being stripped out so starting with a blank canvas. I've attached photos of the kitchen in its current state and also a suggested plan / layout we got with all the measurements.

Would be grateful for any advice on layout & design as we are struggling to decide what we want. I love the idea of nice long worktop but can't decide whether to have the hob on this side as might be cramped having the oven and hob on the other side. We do have a wishlist:

*Head height oven and oven/microwave

*Induction hob

*Integrated - dishwasher, under counter freezer, maximum height fridge

We have relocated the washing machine into the garage so no need to accommodate this. We have decided on engineered oak wood flooring that is going throughout the ground floor.

We would also like to have the kitchen window be able to open up completely as would like to have a bar and bar stools the other side on the decking but really struggling to find windows that do this. Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated as we are totally stuck at the beginning!

We've just ordered our windows and doors from Kloeber and I noticed they do bifold windows which completely open up and may be of interest http://www.kloeber.co.uk/product/windows/timber/folding-sliding

This kitchen design looks ok - but if you are opening up the windows into a bar then echo that with an also slightly unconventional idea perhaps - using a BORA induction hob - which can be fitted ( unusually - but the manufacturers say this is ok) in place if the sink under the window ... the hob itself has a built in extract system - so no extractor needed - and allows you to keep a flatter surface there and entertain your guests by cooking for them while they perch outside !
By moving the sink to where the hob area was allows you to take the DW out of the corner to the end of the run so it's easier to load and unload without being in the way.

Hi Claire, Do the doors actually open inwards into the room? How about considering place the bed in the center of the room facing the doors? You would disguise the back of the bed with a thin console table which have some dressing style storage (jewelry etc) and can hold some tall flowers and candles to set the mood on entering. There's lots of ways you can add the luxury feel you are looking but this would create real impact and make the bed the real feature of the space. If budget allows I would hang lights from the ceiling ad beside lights and layer up on dressing for an even more luxurious feel. I have attached one of my clients bedroom design (single room re-design package) to show you the hanging lighting idea - if this isn't possible then a well placed small chandelier style light would have a great effect on the space. Hi Daisy, Thanks for your comment - my thoughts about your thoughts: I wouldn't put the washing machine next to the oven. By doing that it leaves you with a straight corner base (in which you have the sink) which means the right hand door will provide you with access to the corner only by crawling on your hands and knees. In this corner try to replan using a 900 L shaped base which means both doors can be opened to allow full and easy access. How far away can the plumbing stretch for a washing machine? Would you recommend to put it in any particular place instead? I understand that the corner cabinet would be wasted space but I can't really think of anywhere else to put it - the plumbing is directly behind the sink. A definite no no to the microwave in the wall unit for me. Dangerous to lift hot liquids out of. A sure hazard. Don't forget you'll also be stretching over the worktop to reach this. Good point! My partner isn't happy with that either, she's sure she'll end up spilling something! It's likely we'll get a freestanding microwave. Is there any way you can make a window seat in front of the low sash window? It would be nice to see the view while dining. Perhaps a window seat for 2 people a square table and then 2 chairs on the other side? That sounds good - it would not obstruct the window and kind of be like a low bench, I've mocked it up using the kitchen planner (obviously need to rethink the table and doors). Where the table currently is would you have room for a couple of tall units ..... this could be fridge/freezer, single oven and integrated microwave over or larder unit (that's if you're happy with the window seat idea). I think if we did the window seat idea - there still wouldn't be enough room on that chimney breast unfortunately. From the outside on the Ikea and Magnet plan you will be able to see the worktop so you could have the bottom of the sash windows with frosted glass. You can buy a film to do this yourself. Most worktops are only 600mm deep. I know Ikea's are deeper but that's taking up essential space and providing a bigger hangover at the front. Thanks for that, if we go with the breakfast bar idea - then we will look into frosting the glass. We're on the 1 & 2nd floor so it's not really overlooked.

Hi there! It's always a little tricky to visualise without an image but if we break it down the colours you have to work with are: dark floorboards, grey patio slabs, dark brown and mid oak furniture, and a vanilla kitchen. There's quite a mix there and based on the furniture and dark oak floorboards, it seems like the space might have quite a traditional feel? With this in mind, I'd suggest a herringbone floor in your kitchen. A natural oak would work well with the vanilla kitchen units and furniture. Yet, a darker oak could blend nicely with your hallway boards. Or, there's the option of an ashen colour that would lend itself to your grey tiles outside. Thank you so much Jonathan for taking time to draw something out. Your alternative is close to a path we did consider, but the cooker is dual fuel and moving the gas to the r/h side now is a no-no. Moreover, the external wall is on the left side (as you look at the picture) and this is where the extractor must go given the way the beams run. Practical considerations eh! Re Independent help. I agree, and we have gone down this path (with independent shops), but all the designs presented so far have been...uninspired. Just to be absolutely clear, as I think my sketch is a little confusing, in my own example there are no units proposed down the right hand side; just a f/f at the nearest end. In this respect, I'm not quite sure where the space saving would be between your own and mine, but I'm likely just being a bit dense? (Do ignore the circle on the end of the "G"; that was a draft suggestion from my wife which I didn't erase from my sketch!) Many thanks again.

Hi Sam

Few things I would recommend if I was planning this kitchen as my own

From the technical side of things I would plan on minimizing the working triangle ( distance between sink, fridge and cooker)

From an aesthetic point of view I would recommend a completely symmetrical design to bring some beauty to it ( symmetry = beauty) would also recommend putting some modern design features such as curves units ( can be done even with a small budget), floating units or s-shaped units that can really bring out features within the kitchen especially around the sink . All can be done under budget.

You could also replace the window with a French door and then have tall units on one side and the sink and hob on the other
