paint to compliment Hague blue

Hi, I'm tempted to have a Hague blue feature wall in my lounge. Can anyone recommend what paint would work well with it? We have light grey sofas and a grey rug. Thanks :-)

Hi Ellie. This depends on a lot including your taste, what style you want to achieve, light levels etc.
With just what you have said I would suggest either borrowed light for something lighter or Charlottes Lock for real impact.
I would suggest giving a little more information or feel free to contact me directly.
Don't forget it's always best to try samples of your colour in the space you will be using it. Don't be shy, so large patch samples and do the corner of the room to see shadows and lights as they change through time. All the best.

The colours you've chosen work really well together; I find the room really peaceful and relaxing but not in the least bit dull. Fantastic job. On details, I'd paint the radiator the same Hague Blue - it's not a feature and deserves to blend in, not stand out. I'd also hang bigger pictures than those you've chosen - to give a sense of balance with the drama of the colour. That means you could have larger pictures/paintings on each wall - the room can take it and it won't be dominated by art because your sofa and chairs are such a good size for the room. I'd have bigger plants, or at least one bigger plant - the one I can see is a bit small and would work well on a surface (a side table, perhaps) while a very large plant on the floor would bring the room alive. I agree that a mirror would be good. Have you tried pulling the sofa away from the wall and more into the room? Would that make it seem even more cosy?

Now I think you have a good point there. Choosing a deeper neutral sounds good. I’m a fan of colour and I have a Dulux minty green in my kitchen, F&B Cromarty in my sitting room, Dulux Egyptian Cotton in the bedroom and aqua in the other bedroom. All these shades are soft though so not garish, apart from a navy feature wall in kitchen. Dulux do some lovely neutral shades like Perfectly Taupe, Chic Shadow and Polished Pebble. Of course colours are affected by the light in the room and those sort of shades can look a bit grim in a dark north facing room. PERFECTLY TAUPE CHIC SHADOW POLISHED PEBBLE

Laura, it’s a personal preference but I’d say no. You already have a dark and light contrast which I think looks nice. By introducing The Hague Blue, I think you’d cheapen the impact of your concrete wall by introducing another dark element. I think it’s a case of leaving well alone, it looks good as it is.

We have used a colour similar to Hague blue in a dark study above dark oak cladding with grey curtains/carpet. The colour really makes wood or red leather pop and makes a dark room cozy rather than just dim.

However, it doesn't have to be used as a dark colour to draw walls in, it can really complement some brighter colours like yellow, orange or a really bright lime green and really push them to the fore. It also gives a crisp clean look against whites for a more grown up look.

If you're looking for opulence, try jewel colours like teal or amethyst. All metallics look good against a dark blue, but copper contrasts particularly well.

Luckily, all these colours go with grey, but grey and blue can sometimes be a bit cold so i'd err on the side of warmer tones if in doubt. It's very much dependant on the light in your space and the shades themselves though.
