How to get best from this long kitchen-diner
Comments (7)Hi Tom, Jonathan and Mrs Kain - a belated thank you very much for your comments. Great spot about the shiny ceiling - I hadn't realised that was having an impact. I was going to go for grey kitchen cupboards, and then the kitchen fitter came over the other day and suggested a corner bench seat (where the white unit is) and a dresser where the table currently is, to tie both ends of the room together better - they would be the same style and colour wood as the kitchen units will be after revamping. I was thinking white walls - a Farrow and Ball white, if you have any suggestions of which might look best? Agree about the lights - they are ugly and I've purposefully not added new bulbs as bulbs are quite expensive and I don't like them so didn't want to invest more. I was thinking something like these below to throw light out (and ceiling is low so can't really have anything pendant). Do you think I could also do a pendant over the corner bench/table area or would that look odd in a room with low ceiling with these flush lights too? Would love to hear your thoughts, thanks again for commenting!...See MoreKitchen Diner Living Layout Plans - Advice Please
Comments (31)Hi Keswing, I had exactly the same problem with my hubby!!! Haha! The great thing with concept planners is they will pass their trade discounts onto you! We actually used Gina from Create Perfect on here (but she does exactly the same as OnePlan) who I would highly recommend and the fab thing was that even after her fees it saved us money because she passed on all the trade discounts! I highly recommend getting in touch with OnePlan and Create Perfect and getting quotes from both of them. If you ask them both to send you the list of companies they get trade discount with then you can show that to your hubby and knowing you're in the market for some serious spending on a kitchen and presumably a bit of new furniture then you'll be able to show it's cost neutral! :) We saved over £1,500 in our kitchen alone through Create Perfect getting us discounts with our chosen suppliers (probably worth noting that it doesn't limit your choices as the kitchen company we chose from her concept plan she'd never dealt with before but she set up a trade account just for us, the same for our underfloor heating and actual floor) Hope it helps and good luck!...See Moreideas for our kitchen diner extension
Comments (7)Presumably the stairs are here? Presumably you haven’t started building so window and door positions can be switched? Would you consider a smaller downstairs extension to help pay for an extra bedroom upstairs and therefore not move the bathroom? If there is any future possibility of an upstairs extension would that be easier if you moved the stairs now? Could you please post an upstairs plan to work out where plumbing is?...See MoreWhere to have the door put in kitchen/diner
Comments (7)Thanks both, really appreciate your suggestions/designs. Katlucy - we’ve decided to not use the sliders as it will be a bit tight walking round the back as the extension will be really close to the boundary with our neighbour. But we were originally going to do that, so great minds! Love your drawing, thanks so much for taking the time to do it! So do you think there would be enough room for an island? Love the raised shelf idea! Also really like where you’ve put the coats and the table - we hadn’t considered it this was round for some reason, kept putting the table to the left! I also forgot to say that we have removed the chimney now so there is free rein on where the oven goes! CWD - that’s a really good point, love that idea! The only negative thing I can think of off the top of my head, is that there would be less light let in through the door as the alley is really dark. Much prefer the idea of being closer to the drop zone as not massively keen on having coats hanging openly where food is cooked, can imagine any cooking smells will cling to the coats but not sure if I’m being a bit OTT and that’s even a thing to worry about!...See MoreEllie
