What's the most unnecessary home feature you'd love to have?

Sometimes the odd extra can add value to a home, but other times it's just frivolous and a little unnecessary . That said, what's really unnecessary if it brings a little (or a lot of) personal joy?
So whether it's an indoor slide, a jacuzzi on the roof or a two-tiered walk-in wardrobe, what unnecessary home feature would you love to have?

7 years agolast modified: 7 years agoA walk-in wardrobe / dressing room. I'd love to have one but really don't have that many clothes to put in there. I prefer a small collection of clothes and to give something to the charity shop every time I buy something new. Still I dream...

Comments (13)My kitchen is the last room that needs a total overhaul as it's 30+ years old. Gave it a spruce up by painting the cupboards (with abstract artwork rather than one colour) and changed tiles to make it bearable as I hated the old ones so much and was sick of looking at them. Main thing is finding all the elements that I like while integrating the Edwardian original features (built-in dresser and pantry + open chimney breast. I have some ideas, I want a black mini om extractor and I have the floor plan so just all the details now. I do hate wasting the corner space so have considered lots of options to no avail so may end up just opening it up and putting in a normal corner cupboard with spare crockery, less used items in the far, hard to reach corner....See MoreWhat's the most important thing a bathroom should have?
Comments (34)Most of the elements have been covered already but I would say, first and foremost, storage. Get all the unattractive bottles and bits put away. The second is a large duel fuel towel rail. Summer in the UK isn't always that warm but may not be cold enough for central heating. To keep towels dry I install towel rails that are heated by the gas central heating system in winter or switched to electric for the summer months. There are good looking modern stainless steel towel rails that also act as radiators. If there is adequate space: a large bath, a large shower and a bidet or a WC/bidet combination. In addition, excellent lighting - both task and mood as well as underfloor heating. Definitely NO carpets and NO shower curtains but bath mats that can be washed and glass shower screens. By the way, Japanese baths have integral heating units but are deep and square so you have to sit with your knees up but you get constantly warm water up to your chin....See MoreWhat's the most important thing a kitchen should have?

Comments (35)Trees, plants, vegetables and wildlife. Luckily I have an enormous garden, which includes a hedgehog, lots of slow-worms, frogs and toads, and under the eaves of the house roof live scores of house sparrows, while the old field hedge to the south provides hospitality for many bumblebees, blackbirds etc - even a wren. Under the lawns hide lovely, silky miner-bees... There are two compost heaps and I spend a lot of time bringing home cuttings and then nursing them into life. Of course the garden is masses of work each year and I am 69, but this is as close to living on planet earth as you can get in today's crazy world. There is no silly internet-of-things in my garden; and apart from sunlight, moonlight and the odd flash of lightning, it only sees the occasional use of a torch or led headlight. I guess some of the worst things that can spoil your garden is a nearby stinking barbecue or neighbours who burn stuff in black polythene bags; (or hire a sound system for their birthday) or the unsustainable racket of a MOD fighter jet or helicopter beating the air!
