Beta Testers Wanted for a Home Design Course

Hi everyone, my name is Kate. I've just put together a course on how to do DIY interior design in your home, and I need your help! I'm looking for people to try out the course and let me know what you think of it.

If you're someone who's always been curious about how to make your home look like something out of a magazine, this course will teach you exactly how to do that.

Here's what you'll learn:

(1) You'll come away with a home decor style file, detailing the exact elements that make up your own personal style

(2) You'll create a clearly defined colour palette that you can use throughout your whole home

(3) You'll produce a budget plan for your decorating project

(4) You'll make your very own digital or physical mood board with real samples, showing how all of your ideas come together

(5) You'll learn how to make best use of the spaces in your home, and you'll produce an easy to use floor plan

(6) You'll find out how to place accessories in your home like a professional stylist.

The beta test is 100% free in exchange for your feedback. At some point the course will sell for between £300- £800 so this is an amazing opportunity for you to learn this from me for free. It's a six week course with videos and worksheets, with feedback and group coaching from me and your fellow students every step of the way.

I'm really sorry that you feel like that, Daisy.

As far I know, the idea of this website is for people to get ideas, advice, inspiration, and to learn about interior design and home decor. I contribute to Houzz by giving advice to others too. The course I have developed aims to help with the sorts of problems that members of Houzz experience, and that I see on the advice boards regularly. It is therefore highly relevant to the audience here.

I value greatly the quality of advice that I give out to others, and this is why I am looking for exactly the sort of people who come to Houzz, to help me to test my course. I would hate to offer an untested product to people, and that is why I am asking people to beta test my course: to make sure that it meets their needs and is genuinely useful. I have had a lot of people apply to be a beta tester already, and so I know that there are many people out there who will see this as a great opportunity.

I am not asking for any money, just people's time and feedback for what I hope will become very helpful training for people in the future.

Good afternoon Anna. Interesting. Here's the dilemma ( Houzz pun? ) ..the 15.19 if accurate does not scale with the pic as shown. Judging the sink wall to be about 5 ' (4' 6" perhaps)long, ( 2' for counters, 3' working space) ,it leaves less than 8 ' between the small wall and the front window wall. The pic shows a wall about 12' long. ( Notice the living room area is almost square).

My husband trusts me and prefers I make all those decisions. That said I always ask his opinion on large pieces. If I left it all to him he would lose interest before finishing! Design is so not his thing. But then I'm not interested in documentaries on outer space or Lego.... Best we stick to our own interests I think! ;)

I would think building design would be better as per Elshaw's comment. When you get to the stage of building for yourself, then you pool Architects, Builders, Planners etc to help you. You have to know how to build and what can be built before you can design. Anyone can come up with ideas, but if they are impossible to build, they're not worth the time spent conjouring them up.

White and brick is a classic and you really can't go wrong with it. But it does look a bit old and faded. Try looking up companies that do brick cleaning and sand blasting and perhaps reponting in a colour. (they mix the colour to match the bricks or another colour. The thin lines, when viewed from far, can alter the perceived colour of the bricks.- For example if you wanted a ';yellow brick house' but you 're stuck with brown, repointing in yellow will pick up the yellow tones in the brown brick and it will be yellow. Same goes for the other colours found in the brick. examine which colours are present in your current brick closely. Use a magnifying glass if you have to! You will be amazed and all the colours present in there. Then sandblast and have fun. Do this before you change the windows, as sand blasting can be damaging to the upvc, and then repoint after replacing windows. Depending on the colour the walls come out- Ask for samples on a north and south walls- then choose a black frame (for example with black poinitng) or white with the lighter colours. After a decade or two, then I would look at rendering, but for the moment, try the conservative route since the rendered look can't easily be reversed

Hi, i am a decorative finisher by trade and work mainly with interior designers to create bespoke surface designs in paint and plaster mediums. i myself would love to try out your course and think its a great idea for general public who are not to sure about where to start with designing an interior.

I do have various samples in my projects, there are faux finishes, wall finishes and furniture, i also take on hand painted kitchens. hope you like my work, let me know what you think.
