I would like some ideas on updating the front of my house
Comments (11)hello, it depends on how much of it you want to change, we've all been there, decorated a room or something, then changed our minds a year later, so I'm of the view that basic colours work the best...I've done it with many gardens keep the colours basic then add on..you could do as little as spend £50 to transform your garden. If your house was mine and I had an unlimited budget I'd concrete and paint the wall white, put a palm where the shrub is in a white square planter, and repaint the woodwork, I do like the idea of grey but it would depend on if you are keeping it all the same colour. I don't agree with the Tudor comments, your house is quite new, why would you want it to look old..but of course we all have different tastes... Personally I love buildings painted white, fresh looking concrete with tropicals in the garden, I have a 6 foot Australian tree fern and bananas in my garden, there's nothing like sitting out there in the summer, I love it......See MoreEntry Ideas for House where Front Door Opens onto Staircase
Comments (6)I too have a teeny tiny hall and there isn’t really much you can do, but it can be brightened up with a nice paint job and accessories. I have a small coat rack (3 hooks) in the hall. The stairs I’ve kept clear of pictures as the stairs are so narrow. At the top I’ve a couple of small family pics and a large driftwood heart. My walls are Dulux Egyptian Cotton and the carpet is a stripy one from Crucial Trading. You could put up a nice mirror in the hall, assuming the front door doesn’t bang into it, and maybe another one at the top of the stairs? You are right to stick with paler shades. I know dark shades are in vogue but maybe not where an area has no natural light. It would be grim. Do you have a favourite colour? Palest green, pink or mauve would look good. Plants wouldn’t fare well in a dark area, but there are some fantastic faux ones about that would look good. Here’s a few pics of mine, not the best pics as so little room, I feel your pain!...See MoreIdeas to make the front of this 70s house nicer please
Comments (18)I like your 70s house too from the photo, even your porch looks good, it suits the style of the house. Not sure that a country style or oak porch would suit, though they are beautiful in the right setting. You could search for images of 70s semis online for exterior ideas if your planning on doing a lot of work. A lick of paint and some potted plants should make it look much better though....See MoreNeed ideas for a flat front ex local authority house
Comments (4)My first thought was a canopy/porch but I see you have plans to do that in the future. A simple way to cheer up the frontage is a big flower pot either side with roses or evergreen shrubs like Viburnhun tinus or Cistus. There are many others of course. The pots need to be quite big, maybe half barrels filled with good quality compost. Keep them watered when dry and they will soon flourish. The pebbledash looks okay to me, but you could repaint with masonry if it needs it in the future....See Morelindac3
