ADVICE PLEASE is waterproof matting necessary under floor bath tiles

Any advice would be greatly appreciated ... we have 12mm marine ply base in a 3mtr sq bathroom that needs tiling on a tight budget. from what i can see so far , the waterproof matting ( at £50.00 5sq mtrs roll ) plus joining tape ( £20.00) plus the additional flexi adhesive both under and on top of the matting almost doubles the cost of the project. Logically , unless the matting is seamless with a lip around all the edges and under the wall tiles , to stop any excess water escaping and rotting the walls etc, then am i right in thinking that the principal of waterproof matting underlay is null and void ???? PLEASE ADVISE, as i can't afford or want to sold into unnecessary costs

Hi everyone. We are now progressing with the house bur need some help / advice. We have decided to take down most of the wall between the dining room and kitchen & build an island that will sit half in the kitchen and the other half in the dining room. (See plan). In the dining room we decided, instead of a formal dining table, we would place a log /bench type table (the kind you get in a pub outside or in a canteen) - right in the corner where by the wall between the lounge & dining room (where they meet the corner or bedroom 4 as in the plan). The table could be a great idea for a more formal meal as it would be for to sit more socially. But we want to use a storage bench / box (maybe an Ottoman style) along the walls with plenty of cushions to sit on / against the wall. This type of seating would continue across both walls in the corner, skip past the opening (leading to the shower / bedroom 4) and continue on into the corner where the dining room & kitchen meet (in front of the shower room). So it looks sort of like this (more like the second picture with the brown table) So it looks sort of like this (more like the second picture with the brown table). We love the type of seating / cushions in the first picture (white & blue). Since we do not know where we can buy such tyoe of seating. We thought we could, perhaps, recreate it by buying some wooden storage benches / boxes and add plenty of cushions on them to make them more comfortable to sit / lounge on. Not sure if our ideas are cominf across in my posts but in case you do understand. Does anyone have any suggestions / ideas?

Hi there, When it comes to engineered wooden floors they have been designed to work in conjunction with under floor heating so there is no issue there. If you are looking to go for a wooden floor then we would recommend going for an engineered board with a brushed and lacquered finish. The brushed texture will hide and scratches or scuffs that may occur, the lacquer on the board. Generally our boards come with 8 coats of Super Matte Lacquer. The lacquer will help protect the board from any spillages seeping into the board. If you have an idea of the colour you would be looking to go for we would be more than happy to suggest some suitable products. We also have some very realistic laminate Flooring by Kronoswiss. The Kronoswiss origins ranges comes in at 14mm thick. It is An AC5 Grade, each laminate is graded between AC1 - AC5. AC5 being the most durable. These boards have been designed to take heavy traffic.
