Need help with lounge layout and design …
Comments (17)Sneaky thing, not sharing the rug with us! But you're right, the colours are v difficult; the pink is wrong -- if it were terracotta I think it'd be great. The fireplace space: of course, if you have a millionaire to schmooze, a great piece of sculpture. My go-to instead of sculpture is tree branches, from the year's winter pruning. Not funny sticky things bought from a shop, something you find that you think is a beautiful shape, art from nature just as it is. In a floor vase with a narrow neck. Can you get out into the country, or a big park, at pruning time? A real branch can last pretty well forever, you don't need to do it every year....See MoreNeed help for my lounge room!!
Comments (46)Missmjbs I totally understand your angst, and here's what I would say. Your room looks great as it is, its definitely not offensive and I would happily have a cuppa and a chat in there. Saying that I agree that it needs more work to make it the place that you would totally love. My favourite type of interiors are those that look like they've evolved over a period of time and not the ones where the owner goes and buys everything to match and beautifully coordinate and call it done!! Don't get me wrong I admire these interiors a lot and tend to decorate my own spare bedrooms in this manner because its a lot quicker and easier. I think you should deal with one thing at a time instead of focusing on the overall picture and take your time deciding every single piece that comes in that room, don't rush it. Enjoy choosing and educating your eye by doing a lot of research. I live by a mantra as far as my interiors go, if I absolutely love it then it will work. And I think this is important because our living spaces should reflect us most of all and relate to us and our lifestyles. So tackle that wall because it seems to me its the thing that bothers you most. Get your colour or wallpaper up and live with it for a while, you will know if its right or wrong then if you feel it doesn't work then you can look for a tv unit as an alternative. I would be inclined to buy (ikea malm are a favourite of many style lovers) or indeed have a handy hubby build you a set of simple consoles and position either side. Use some art work above to fill the wall around the tv and make it less obvious stuck there on its own and a couple of lamps and I think that wall could become your friend. As for my upholstered ottoman thank you :) , it was a rescued orange pine coffee table from a local skip, upholstered it myself in a gorgeous quality zebra fabric to pull in the dark colour from my painted Chinese TV cabinet turned booze bar (wish I could replace it). The nail trim made it look like I bought it in an expensive shop and it takes our feet every day watching telly :) Phew sorry for the war and peace :)...See MoreNeed help with lounge layout
Comments (2)I obviously can't see where the door is but could you move the tv to the door wall and have the sofa opposite with its back to the window? In terms of the bay, either a small desk and chair, 2 occasional chairs with a small drinks table or a chaise longue...See MoreOur lounge/ drawing room - need inspiration please!!!
Comments (16)Hi Diana. Re your windows I would look at something like this (dining room pics in link) http://www.drivenbydecor.com/2015/05/window-treatments-tricky-recessed-corner-windows.html 0r have a voile blind inside the recess and the curtains hung outside to give more height to the room. I'd go for a pole that doesn't contrast with the wall colour. Farrow and ball blackened may work for the walls (which way does the room face? I'm assuming some of the pics are a little dark as you didn't have any light behind you when taking the pic?!). Were you planning on dressing the feature window? As you've got cool and warm greys I'd layer them so a warm grey sofa with a cool grey or maybe blue ikat cushion. I'd have seating at right angles to the fire, sofa to the right of the fire with a lamp table closest to the fire and 2 accent chairs opposite, patterned ones might be nice. I'd go for large art over the fire rather than a mirror as you've got the window, perhaps a landscape. In terms of the look you want, perhaps look at velvet for the sofa. Lamps will add cosiness, a driftwood lamp will give the natural look. Add texture for the seating, perhaps a patterned cushion in front of a textured one and a textured throw on the other arm of the sofa. Also use plants and perhaps some faux flowers (I like oka faux hydrangea but it needs to be mixed with foliage). Perhaps a brass glass coffee table to add some warmth with some coffee tables books and the flowers!...See MoreUser
