WIDE WINDOW CURTAIN

Just fitted a new patio window 3.2m wide, with a 50% opening at l/h end, and now need to fit new curtains totally located at the r/h end, where there is some space beyond to site the curtain in a closed position, to draw across the whole length. In the open position this will give the beneficial effect of the whole window.
If using a regular tube rail with ringlet curtains, it will not span without a central support (obviously only allowing curtains from each end). Our existing Kirsch rail could be reused (not with the ringlet method), with the pull mechanism revised to pull right to left, but we would prefer a lighter curtain design with the ringlet hanging method.
Any ideas on how this could be overcome - have thought of heavy gauge tube which may span (or even solid rod), but am unsure, and if it sags, given the cost would be wasted - this would need to be 4m long,
Is there a 300 degree tube i.e slotted along its length, where a method of attaching the curtain would ride inside the slot?

Everything is possible! You could do this with a light weight hollow rolled circular or square section (these can be powder coated to any colour) - but you would have to ask the metal worker about making any cuts or holes in it and how it would effect the span. Essentially you are putting up a new lintel that is pretty much taking the weight of the curtains, which isn't a light task for any material :-)

If the wall (or ceiling) are still exposed from the work and there isn't much to fix into, you could insert a layer of 12mm (minimum) ply into the wall or ceiling before covering it back over to give you something to fix to. By the sounds of things there is a reason you don't want the central support, so I won't go down that path and you seem determined to have that light weight look and feel of the large ringlets.

I put some ideas together for you with different fixing types and methods. I think potentially the exact opposite to what you are thinking might be the right option here - a very slimline regularly fixed rail with a sheer light curtain could give you the look you are aiming for.

We also didn't want a central support so we came up with the idea of using an electricians metal rod/pole that they use to feed all the wires through. Ours in just under 4 m long works a treat and cheap.

Japanese panels look lovely and minimal, but when it comes down to light control and flexibility they are not great. The biggest drawback is that one section of window is permanent,y covered even when fully open. Shutters and Venetian Blinds can cover all of the window but be tilted to allow light in even when they are drawn together or fully pulled down. Shutters offer even more light flexibilty due to having split panels. The louvres on on the top panel can be open letting light through, whilst the bottom section can be closed and vice versa. I had Japanese panels in my dining room for several years but installed my own shutters just before last Christmas, it's made an incredable difference. Another problem with Japanese panels is that to come accross a three metre span the track required could be too deep to fit the reveal. I'm able to open mine fully during the day too, but with a desk beneath that may not be an option without moving items on the desk

Blinds which will fit very wide bay window, can anyone advise?

You could paint the TV unit doors and either the uprights or the shelves of the hi fi unit the same colour to help get cohesion. You have a grey sofa and the grey uprights so colour match them. Do the same with the other shelving unit. You then are creating a neutral palette on which to build other colours. Re the windows, the room is quite masculine, so either keep with that theme and go for wide slatted venetians, or soften the room up with long sweeping curtains with the fabric picking out your highlight colours. For privacy you could put film on the window, but it looks as if you have greenery outside so perhaps you don't need it..

If your budget is limited you might struggle to find curtains wide enough as you are likely to need made to measure. I had the same issue as you and just bought two sets of the same curtains. It's not ideal but when they are opened and closed neatly you can't really tell. If you are handy you could stitch them together? I buy curtains from Dunelm and always recommend them for curtains as they have a large selection at good prices.
