Paint colour help for kitchen diner

I'm currently renovating my kitchen diner and am at the stage where I now need to pick wall colours before the flooring is laid. I was planning on going for all white with an accent colour being brought in on blinds and artwork etc, but am now considering whether it would be better to go with a feature wall? Because we have an air source heater on the end wall (I hate that thing but it needs to stay for now) we can't have that wall as the feature so am tempted to go for the wall facing the Windows where the hob, extractor and breakfast bar will be.

The cabinets are two tone; grey oak and white with a white work top. The flooring is going to be a nude concrete effect vinyl, so keeping a neutral palette through out so far! Will be tiling behind the hob, but haven't decide design on that yet.

I've painted some samples and would appreciate any feedback or pointers in right colour direction if none of those seem right!?

Picture is the wall that I hope to have as the feature.

I've used it on a few projects now. 1920's apartment where is looks grey but warm and in a modern apartment with a white kitchen. They both look completely different.

Rest of kitchen (in progress). All doors and finishings will be white. And the wood that is exposed on the left will be covered with white worktop for breakfast bar once complete.

thanks for commenting. i've now decided to go with fnb Joa's white for the living aea. its a greyish cream which i think will be light, warm and cosey without clashing with the other colours. i didn't initially think cream would work as my base throughout the house is light grey, but its quite a greyish toned cream and fits well the cream carpets throughout house :) Kitchen being fitted today. exciting to have it all come together now.

Hi. The kitchen looks a very different colour online! I'm assuming you don't want much contrast with the units based on the colour pics? You're going to need a warm grey but it may take some time to find the right one :( I would start with farrow and ball skimming stone (pic shows it in a north facing room), slipper satin and ammonite. I think you can afford to go darker on that dining wall, have you considered a textured wallpaper, faux grasscloth etc? Based on your first pic you like neutrals mixed with lots of texture so you could go for greige sofa (maybe a shade or 2 lighter than walls/kitchen) and then add your colour plus different shades of the greige from really light to fairly dark with different textures for cushions, throw and accessories. Alternatively you could go for a blush pink or duck egg sofa. Plants, herbs, flowers will lift the room. Perhaps add a really large mirror where the sofas are to make it feel wider and bounce light.

Hi everyone, I’m new to Houzz and we just moved into a partially finished renovation project last Friday. We have a lovely kitchen diner with a grey kitchen - dark grey cupboards, grey tiles marble work surface and grey laminate. My husband and I are having discussions trying to choose a paint colour to go with the kitchen but not be too dark in the living room bit. Thanks Daisy England! I also like the Crispy Crumble but also the taupe too! Do you think a feature colour wall is the right thing to do?

That colour looks fab in the photo you posted and it think may actually go quite nicely with the kitche. I will go pick up a sample tomorrow! Do you think have that colour as a feature wall colour or whole room colour?

Kitchen is looking great. How about just making a feature of the splash back. Tiled to ceiling can look great. Could be textured or flat. Bright or subtle, so many choices. And a easier to maintain option than paint.

That kitchen features lovely tiled wall, that has both matt and glossy tiles. Adds interest in a plain wall.

Hi Claire, I'd go for the same colour everywhere, the kitchen looks great and it doesn't really need a feature wall. Little Green also have some good greys. A

Have you looked at coloured, textured glass splashbacks to add colour and interest? That way you could use the same paint colour throughout.

Thanks everyone for your advice, it really is much appreciated! I definitely think I may stick to an all over colour and consider a more prominent splashback. I have looked at a few different kinds, but not convinced of a colour splashback, but any textured ideas would be welcome!

Progress is taking a little longer than expected due to our joiner being away on holiday, but we've got the flooring in now (little lighter than I remember..) and have the walls coated ready for colour. I'd bought F&B Cornforth White before the flooring was in but now I wonder with the flooring so light should I go for dark walls? Any advice would be much appreciated!

Hi Claire. The kitchen is looking good! I might consider a warmer stonier colour to pick up the tones in the oak, maybe skimming stone or even the darker elephants breath not knowing which way the room faces. Where is the splashback to go? Are you having shelves at all or upstands?

Thanks for suggestions, I'll pick up some samples this morning and see. I am really nervous about getting the colour wrong! The room faces south so is generally darker with some afternoon sunshine. The splash back is going on the wall on the left. The worktop here is still to be fitted and will have a breakfast bar along with the hob and extractor. I am still undecided on the splash back and was going to wait until the colour was decided but I was leaning towards a textured white tile? Still not sure though so any suggestions would be great!

I just went sample shopping and unfortunately my local paint shop didn't have the F&B skimming stone left so I got it colour matched to Rum Caramel 5 and then just got Cornforth white colour matched as well to Dusted Moss 2 so I could properly compare. I also sampled Just Walnut. What do you think? Cornforth turned out a bit too cool as I predicted, so I am leaning towards RC5/SS or Just Walnut?

I prefer the warmer tones too. Have you painted bigger samples? I'd try 2-3 coats on a3 and try them in different places in the room to see how they change in different lights. I think JW can have a slight pink undertone and it looks onscreen as if the rum does too. A white textured splashback would be good to "sandwich" the floor and units, would just make sure the shade matches the worktop. Another idea is a marble of sorts which would go well with the concrete. You mentioned black and green accents before I think (?!) and this could work really well with some brass accessories

Thanks Minnie. I tried the Just Walnut just before I read your message and persisted with a second coat to see how it looks. I'm not very happy with it as it has indeed come up too pink possibly. Tempted to go with Dusted Moss 2 now?

It can be quite pink which isn't for all! It looks really light on your wall too. I love dm2 which I think has a green undertone so you may prefer that. It does take a while to get colours right. I'm soon to start testing for the outside of my house and expect to spend a fortune in testers :(

Thank you! I find wth Dulux actually that the colour dries so much differently than how it appears as well. I counted over 35 samples yesterday! Crazy how much you can rack up on samples!

I went and grabbed a Homebase Barley Haze to coat the walls and I'm delighted that it's taken the pink out of the colour and warmed it up.
