Farrow & Ball Elephant's Breath

Is it my eyes or does this colour look greige? I am told it should look grey but I've painted it on some A3 sheets and put it in my north facing lounge and am sure it looks more beige than grey. Saying that it does look grey sometimes! It's a lovely warm colour but I'm worried that when my new grey leather sofa is put next to it, it is going to look more beige than grey. I want a grey colour on the walls but a warm grey, most greys seem quite cold in a north facing room. I don't want to have to paint the room twice so wondered if anyone could give me their opinion on this colour and any photos if you have it with a grey sofa and brown wood floor? I can't decide whether to just go for it. Thank you

Hi. It is a greige and the colour will change throughout the day. I'm surprised it's more beige if your room is north facing though! This is a pic from F&B with EB on walls and charleston gray on the chimney. Do you have a pic of your sofa?

Your room looks lovely and the colours work well and look lighter than I expected. I think I'll just go for it. If I really hate it I can always repaint. I took a photo of the sofa in the shop but it doesn't show it's true colour, it arrives in a few weeks so I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Hi Debbie, What a lovely big space! I'm not sure if this is helpful but we have recently undertaken a large renovation project and despite putting wooden floors throughout the downstairs our designer convinced me to go with a lighter tile for the kitchen / dining / living area and it was definitely the right thing for us (I didn't necessarily agree at the time as thought wood throughout would be best) Our room is North east facing and the walls are in F&B Ammonite just for a frame of reference. The units are clearly a very different colour to what you'll be having but hopefully it still gives you an idea. I know colours can be quite tricky in a darker room and I know our designer went to a lot of trouble picking and checking colours to ensure the impact of the light was right and we didn't make it dark The tiles are 60cm x random length seasoned Limestone, purposely with quite a rustic feel (which helps keep them looking clean as they're not shiny and have variable markings) Here are a few pics if it helps I am sure you have already considered this but have you checked the Elephants Breath in the room? I also loved that colour but when we put it in a slightly darker room it looked very lilac. I was once told that you shouldn’t have more than 2 types of wood in only one space. The floor looks lovely and I’d be tempted to paint all the wooden furniture so that they read as a matching set. Rather than make them a ‘feature’ with a bright coloured paint, I’d push them into the background using a white wooden stain or antique white cracked paint. Add a toughened glass top to help reflect daylight giving protecting to the paint. If budget allowed, I’d be tempted to invest in a neutral coloured rug bringing more daylight into the room. It could be look very sophisticated!

My friend painted hers in F&B Bone and it looks amazing. I’m a huge fan of William Morris, the busy intricacy of his fabrics and wallpapers is just fab. I think Green Smoke will look gorgeous too as it has that period feel. My fireplace is white and it has aged to a more mellow off white, so I wonder if All White or Wimborne White might look good?

I think you really have to see how it looks in the room/area that you're going to use it in due to the individuality of its lighting and aspect. We had our sights firmly fixed on Railings for our front door having painted a sample on to card but it then looked really blue when we painted a sample on the door. We ended up having to experiment with various tester pots (not cheap) until we ended up going for Downpipe which looked a lot lighter on our door than it did on the sample card. The F&B colours are great so I'm sure it will look fine. Good luck!

That's a room inspiration from F&B so not mine although I do have it in my hall and landing! If you like the colour then you may find layering a few more greys and greiges work as they've done in the pic. If you're not sure on the colour then little Greene also do a few warm greys.
