Downstairs toilet/cloakroom
Comments (7)There is a great colour called Blackend in the Farrow and Ball Range. The Farrow and Ball paint is not of good quality, unfortunately. I am a professional decorator and have this colour mixed up in the Johnstone's range of Cova Plus Matt, which is of superior quality. If you pop down to your local Johnstones trade centre, have a look on the internet, they will be able to mix up this colour for you. Just ask. Its a brilliant colour....See MoreCloakroom update, advice needed
Comments (8)I think it can be fun to do something a bit personal and 'different' in a cloakroom. So if it were me, and there weren't funds or time to do a full-makeover - I would choose a theme that had some connection with family interests, location, past -- e.g. perhaps a hobby, or a location of a special holiday, or a country that you're originally from, or a favourite animal/plant, musical instrument, music / paint genre or a favourite decade, or favourite superhero or movie. Then I'd go to All Posters and find a print or canvas related to that theme. Put that print/canvas on the wall opposite the toilet (for a good view!). Then choose a paint that matches some aspect of the picture/canvas. Not too dark. Paint the entire room in that colour. And paint the same colour but a darker shade around the recess of the mirror (like a frame). Choose a hand towel in a contrasting colour. Dunelm have lots of good colours; inexpensive. John Lewis too. Put up a chrome hand towel ring to the right hand side of the sink (so towel is not hanging on radiator). Get rid of current ornaments and replace with 3 things. (I really agree with the rule of thumb that things look good in 3s! Don't know why that is). Maybe three of the same lined up; or 3 of various heights placed in trio. Anything really, but would be extra bonus if the new ornaments had something to with the theme you chose for the picture. Get a new toilet brush and holder. Again Dunelm is good. Perhaps chrome or crisp white ceramic (not cream if your toilet bowl is white). Reduce the number of soap dispensers. One soap dispenser at a time. And one moisturiser if you want. Your black wire basket would be worth keeping if you are going to have moisturiser and soap. It like the way it looks on your mirror shelf. And last but not least - you might if you can - replace the ceiling light. There are loads of options, but it probably needs to be bathroom-rated IP44. Choose something that goes with the look you're trying to achieve. But I think that if you do the rest, this isn't essential. Your current spot lights are fine too. So that's my suggestion for a cheap makeover! I like A.S.' ideas if you have more energy for a full makeover....See MoreHow to finish my cloakroom?
Comments (10)Ooops. Didn't mean to submit that yet... Obviously not very good at putting photos on Houzz either! ...This is the "grim" end of the cloakroom. Doesn't really go does it?! ...The room is L shaped and the loo cistern will be boxed in. I painted it in Ammonite (F&B) to try and tie in the floor but it doesn't work as it's all too pale. Susie, the wallpaper is Fine Decor Tranquility Tree (Black and Copper). I got it from Johnstones but it is online everywhere. Minnie, you have hit the nail on the head. The floor has been driving me mad, as it was probably a mistake and doesn't really match anything. Probably needed dark wood or some kind of geometric print but hey-ho. It is done now so have to make it work. The cabinet was orange wicker off ebay for £30 which I japanned with shellac. It doesn't seem very green in the flesh, but I agree something doesn't gel and I can't put my finger on it.. I'm not keen on posting pics of my rooms on the forum unless I have a genuine question, as I am under no illusions that I am not an interior designer and have no budget for fancy things, so it's a bit scary, but I will take some pics and put them in my Glen House board if you are interested :) Jonathon, Carolina, I will give dark a try. Thank you... perhaps if I break up the dark then it won't be too overbearing. (MATH- pictures of the other walls as requested... I have painted my Drawing Room blue on your advice in the past, so advice welcome!) Hannah, would you paint the skirtings to match the floor, or the walls or both? ...The floor is "dove grey". Thank you. Lottie x...See MorePaint ideas - dark green tiles
Comments (2)very very pale pink looks lovely with green, pale grey would also look nice or just a white and you can then have a longer thing about colour and you can paint it in the future....See MoreBeautiful Sunshine Life
