Our home is a comfort driven election of many types of timber and styles having been donated bits from great grandparents, grandparents, parents and even a friend's old pine kitchen table that had been chewed by her dog! We may be awarded any trophies for our home but it is full of memories of our 50 years of marriage. The only bit of furniture I really do not like and regret buying is a tipple galas shelved TV unit. Hi Katie. I do like the furniture you've chosen, as I said previously I would personally struggle to arrange furniture on a flat ŵall without corners, alcoves etc! I think it might be an idea to create a new post so others may be encouraged to respond without reading through previous comments. It may potentially work if you were to move the tv unit to the right. Have a floor lamp to the left of the unit and the chair angled in front of the lamp. Perhaps have a long piece of art or set of 2/3 to the right of the tv with maybe a plant stand or something and then the chinese cabinet. Do play around with the height of things though. I know you've looked before but I really think you need an area rug to zone the living space. Re kitchen not sure of your current thoughts but have you thought of a peninsular coming off that right ŵall within the kitchen? If you were to move the dining table perhaps a couple of accent chairs and table for the bay to keep your husband happy?!

shelley Aww it took me 6 years to convince him for the some colours and amazingly he loved the teal colour and mustard colour more. I just needed a little of your advice on the other wall colour teal with a grayish colour I think but am not too sure which grey. And do you think oak furniture will go with this look as http://www.argos.co.uk/m/static/Product/partNumber/2475176/searchTerm/Heart+of+House+Elford+sideboard.htm but once again the confusion kicked in. am thinking of the sideboard and bookcase and I will get some light for the top of of the bookcase a bit like ikea do on top of their furniture. the bookcase will go where the lamp is and the sideboard on the focal wall.

Hi Yolanda - I'd change the stools, table and chairs, and swap the pendants for something in coloured glass or (personally) metallic, and change the cabinet handles from steel to brass/gold. Instant lift. Splashback-wise, try distressed mirror (suitably tempered and toughened) as it has loads of personality, bounces light around and is easy to clean. Then play with wall colour. Warm accents will stop the wood door from jarring so much (or paint it, if you can convince your husband). You have a lovely kitchen - will take very little to get it where you want!
