POLL: Carpet - love or loathe?
Comments (53)Definitely hard surfaces all the way - you can refinish them when they get tired and are really practical for children/pets/outdoors lifestyle. We used a mixture of new polished concrete, exposed flagstones and original elm boards at our miner's cottages and don't find it cold or austere....See MoreDo you prefer carpet or wood flooring (with a rug) in a bedroom?
Comments (12)The poll was neck and neck but it seems like I just tipped it in favour of wood! I prefer wooden flooring, as that is what I am used to. I do like a carpeted landing space however and agree that a carpeted room has a greater element of cosiness to it, especially in colder months. But the big downside for me is that they are more susceptible to stains from spillages etc....See MoreCarpet or solid wood floor
Comments (10)Hi Karen, as the room is a fab 12 metres long, we think it would really lend itself to wood flooring with you being able to get long rows of planks down the length. The style of the space too, with the bare stone and cosy atmosphere will work with the traditional feel of wood flooring. And of course, wood is a lot more hygienic than carpet for a dining area. We suggest going for an antique-style floor with lots of character in a warm tone. Here are some ideas below and we hope it all goes well for you. Comments (9)Hi GJDee, A rug can be any size and will help to provide a more comforting and warm space in the winter months. The difference between a rug and carpet is that a carpet covers the whole floor with no option of seeing your character filled floor and a rug covers only a portion of the flooring so that you can still enjoy the aesthetics of your wood flooring beneath. The rug can then can easily be rolled up in the summer months and stored away, to allow the airflow throw the flooring etc. And to be honest, a rug brings the space together, creating an atmosphere, especially if your room is of a larger size. I hope that this helps. Kerry WITHOUT RUG WITH RUG...See MoreCROWDYHOUSE
