What style sofas should I put in the lower floor of our "shoe factory"
We recently had an architect help us build out the lower floor in an old warehouse style building. It (as you can see) is minimal and still industrial feeling. The upper floor has a lot of wood and we've tried to keep the furniture to a minimum (see photo with dog).
We have some lovely big wool sofas on the ground floor. The ground floor has more of a Victorian feel with some nods to industrial past of the warehouse.
The lower floor needs to feel cohesive but I'm not sure we want it to echo the main floor. I'm looking for a style of sofa for this room. In the photo I imagine a sofa, chairs on some sort of rug in front of the "free standing" wall at the end of the room. This floor has all our guest rooms on it. The idea of this sitting space is for our guests to have a place to hang if they wake up early and don't want to come upstairs to the open space living.
Thoughts? Ideas?
This is the downstairs space that needs a "living area". We need a style of a sofa and a rug... really don't know where to start

7 years agoWhat a fantastic home. Could you post more photos of the other levels, so we can get a feel of the furniture you already have?
I'm thinking a modular sofa like this would be nice in your guest lounge area, something that looks cosy and inviting, but still modern.
But maybe chesterfield sofas might be more in keeping with the rest?

7 years agolast modified: 7 years agothere are only 2 levels. The one you have seen that is empty and the one that has all the wood is our living space. Here are some photos we have of the sofas on the main floor. I'm not fussed if they are the same. I'm just trying to figure out how to create a new look on this level

I tried mforr to find one o those room colouring things for a shop here in the uk and whilt you can do it with dulux paint brand, it didnt seem to like my iPad so need to get onto it on my laptop! Having slept on it I'm thinking I like the idea of doing the kitchen only in colour, and then having highlights of the colour in the LR with cushions perhaps. We considered curtains too but I'm not sure if it would crowd the LR. We are sure that the coffee table is too big also, but I love it (it has a glass top and we can present things in the drawer below). We also have no dining table so this is our only space for setting out food! I'm still liking the green, but the yellow goes well too. We have a tea/coffee jars on our kitchen work top (might be just visible in the pictures) which are green yellow and grey, so if I bring these along to the DIY shop they could colour match those for me. Comments (11)Beautiful room so far. I would also suggest a wooden floor of some sort - probably a mid oak shade.. Have a look round and even bring some samples home to try if you can. Don't worry too much about having different woods as the floor needs to be something you like, being a large area. A nice grey rug with a touch of turquoise to match your armchair would be good but keep the pattern subtle. Once you get your sideboard for the children's toys it will look lovely. If this is the only living room, perhaps a tasteful small table and chairs for the children would be useful at the far end? Its always good to contain their stuff in one area. Alternatively, Ikea do some cute children's armchairs in a grey fabric that would match the style of your adult chair that would look amazing as well. 7 years agoA deep neutral colour rug to help bring the furniture together with a silver riveted metal coffee table and Tassimo (or similar) coffee machine.
Or
This is a bit disjointed, I don't have decent soft-wear on my computer but you get the idea. Still a curve in the sofa for a cosy get together feel, solid colour designed chairs with metal and glass occasional table and a fluffy rug for that warm snuggly feeling under the toes.

7 years agoI love these Victorian chairs by Ines Cole which come in c70 colours. She also does a similar sofa and I also quite like her antique mercury and her leather coffee table! I think I'd put a really large piece of art or sculpture on that end wall and have seating halfway down. Or if it's not too cliche use it to display shoes artfully in some way and perhaps paint the wall an inky grey or blue or a dark green.

7 years agoI'm not too keen on the white shelves look personally but just an idea of how they could be displayed. Or look for a vintage cabinet

7 years ago@minnie101 We totally were thinking of something like that re; shoes. We are trying to source an old black and white photo that we could blow up and put on the wall you don't see.
I do like the victorian style of chairs/sofas too. Interestingly @carolina I was looking at Swoon too. However, my partner doesn't like the winged back of this sofa here... i do.
