Master Bedroom

This is my master bedroom, I need advice to decorate it. Also do these chairs go with the bed and which type of chair would be good with the desk. I'm confused about the rug, what colour rug would look best in this room? Thanks.

You may want to reconsider keeping curtains as well as the shutters, as they don't keep out all the light, particularly as you said the room is bright & south facing. Especially in the summertime when it gets lighter so much earlier. From someone who's been awake since 5am because of this problem! Note to self: must get round to choosing curtains! Also, F&B cornforth white is very pale. We've used it on the interior of our windows, but I think it would be a little boring if we used it on the walls, too close to white, especially in a room as bright as yours. A friend with very good taste recommended Little Greene's French Greys. It's a lovely warm grey & there are several different tones. Don't be scared of even the darkest one as even that isn't too strong on the walls! Our master bedroom used to be at the south facing front of a 30's house too, but after rebuilding we're now at the back of the house. Although I love looking out over the garden, I do miss that glorious sunshine you get! (Although not at 5 in the morning!). Have fun deciding, and remember you can always repaint if you really hate anything!

Now that my kids are growing up and privacy is hard to find, my bedroom has become my sanctuary. Decorated in soft greys and white, I keep it super tidy and feel restful as soon as I walk in the room!

Ok, this is a great space so easy to fix. People might give you specific advice but really it depends on your taste. There are 3 important things you are lacking that will fix your room - zoning, texture and lighting. zoning - if you can walk into a room and read it immediately it translate as boring. To fix this you need to draw the eye around the room. You can use furniture, art, points of interest to do this. Perhaps a cool chair outside the bathroom door or a chaise lounge. Perhaps a big banana plant or fiddle fig between your windows. Perhaps a huge piece of art above the bed. Perhaps some cool wallpaper art there (check out Curious Egg). A reading nook? How about filling that massive space between the end of your bed and wardrobes? You could put a huge pouffe, love seat or ottoman on a rug there so it looks a bit like a dressing room area with seating. Anthropologie do some great options. texture - you need a huge rug to go partially under your bed and soften the room. Try French connection home or la redoute for affordable options. Why not texturise the wall your bed is against. Do the whole wall or a textured headboard made of timber etc. Abigail ahern does some great, easy to assemble faux wall options. Again I would recommend plants. Not everyone likes these I need a bedroom but again Abigail ahern does some great fauxs. lighting - the room is very light and bright but at night it probably can look a bit stark or cold. I would definitely advocate some free standing lights. These should be near whatever zones you create. Certainly I would have some bedside lamps and maybe a taller freestanding lamp elsewhere. Rule of thumb in a room this size is at least 5 lamps or freestanding lighting units! finally, if you like neutrals and want to avoid colour, neutral colour through texture is a great solution. A beni oudain rug, a large sheepskin over the bottom of the bed, a large wicker chair. And of course, plants. good luck!

I like your room by the way, nice and classy. I think the chairs, the table, the bed and the desk are brilliant together and I love your curtains. However, I would change that light wood (pine?) sideboard and the bedside cupboards too. I think they don't quite match. Although, first I would try to change the handles and see if I can achieve a different (better) look. I would keep the lamps, they are nice.

Behind the bed, below your light, I would choose 3 small classy artworks, possibly landscape paintings (you can find very nice ones on Etsy).

I would place a dark blue - brown - beige patterned huge rug underneath the bed (or in 3 pieces around and in front of the bed), with a classy pattern that would bring warmth to the room and would compliment your beautiful bedding & curtains.

I would decorate the side wall with paintings in a bigger size too. This will allow the room to feel less empty and will add warmth, you'll find it more cosy.

You could possibly turn that desk into a dressing table with a nice mirror placed on top. A dark wood stool would match nicely with it.

The first thing I would buy would be the rug(s), it will make the biggest difference.
