How to make a very large empty looking boys bedroom look cosier

The bed is lost in the corner their is a bay window and a lot of empty space how to make a play area and a homework area work the boy is nine years old and is musical

I would advise a lick of paint, maybe something darker and striped, for example red, blue, white, green stripes as there is a lot of light already. As well as maybe a darker floor like the pictures i have attached. From the quickstep collection

I really like the grey chevron so I'm thinking maybe I could do that and incorporate pink and maybe blue or green. I did think of all white with pops of colour and I really like it but I think as easy as it sounds it's a hard look to master without it lookin like you just threw it together. plus I think it works best with primary colours and as I already have my girl we have a lot if pink.

Hi. I think I would just keep art or mirrors etc over the chest of drawers. You could paint the chest and change the handles and even add mouldings so it matches the style of the bed and side tables and then add a large free standing dressing table mirror on the top. Add a vase of good quality faux flowers for some height and colour. You may be able to squeeze a small chair or stool in at an angle closest to the window so it really looks like a dressing table. Alternatively you could have a set of antique mirror tiles over the top which look good either hung together or slightly spaced out. Hi Katherine, It sounds like a great space that can offer a real impact and still be a very cosy and relaxing space. It can be daunting to have such a large space to deal with at first, especially when there are features you don't want to touch. There are lots of different options for the space. I like the idea of opening up the fireplace as it would make a great feature for the room and a place to add a possible seating area for reading but I do agree that if down stairs is electric it is probably closed off. It is a bit of work and a messy job to get it changed. You shouldn't need to worry about planning but will obviously need to abide by building regulations. I think a lot of people place only a large bed and a select few piece of furniture in there types of rooms to draw attention and emphasis the gorgeous period features but there of course things we can do to add additional wardrobes in unobtrusive ways. I would agree to not adding a en-suit as it will unbalance the space. However, it is very hard to tell without any pictures? Would you be able to upload any? Thanks for all the ideas! Just to clarify I have blinds on the window but even with the blinds turned I feel like I'm not getting much privacy, hence the idea of having a wall or something else. Just like to have privacy without having to close the blinds. I also currently have a chest of draws opposite the wardrobe, just a cheap one from IKEA which gives me extra storage but I'm not crazy about it. After mocking up the back to back in 3D in floorplanner I think it's not the best option as it would reduce the amount of floor space and block a lot of light compared to having a long run against the wall. I like OnePlan's idea, I actually thought about that before but went off it as it wold feel more like walking into a wardrobe instead of a bedroom, plus I couldn't find any sliding doors that looked good from both sides and in budget. While I like the idea of wardrobes either side, I would only have about 1-1.5 meters on the left side, which might look a bit odd. I did try it with my current wardrobes and it made the room very dark but if I used white wardrobes it might look better. As you can tell I've been thinking about this for a while and I've gone through a lot of ideas. My main concern was with people's reaction to dividing the room and walking into the wardrobe first but I'm encouraged with the comments on here about that. The other concern is budget. I don't want to spend a crazy amount on it but I do want it finished nice. Thanks for all the ideas and comments :)
