Hi I would like to know if I can put a sink into a freestanding unit .photo will come later thanks.

Free standing baths are only suitable for larger rooms where you have the ability to position the bath with free access all the way round, I regularly remove them from smaller bathrooms when doing re-fits, people like the aesthetics of the free standing bath and plough ahead and install them against a wall, the result is a disgusting accumulation of dust, fluff, pubic hair etc, this will happen quite quickly and you will regret having gone down this route. The concept of having the bath with no curtain is interesting though, in a bathroom around 2.1m square, most of the bathroom will be effected by splashing, the room will need a wet room floor former, and will require that the whole room is tanked prior to tiling, have a look at. (http://www.wetroominnovations.com) I usually use their Maxus formers and Purus gully traps. you can indeed get a flexible waste connection, have a look at McAlpine "Flexcon" range, these are available through any reputable merchants, these are quite substantial and would stand up to semi regular movement, if your free standing bath is an acrylic bath it won't be too heavy, so moving it would be quite straight forward, but I would suggest having small felt pads on the feet to protect the tiled surface, also from a drying point of view, Karcher have a very good little gadget for cleaning windows, which vacuums up the water, I often mention it to clients and any who have bought one have been delighted at how easy it is to use, it will leave the floor almost dry once you have used it, one note of caution would be your choice of floor tile, you will need a porcelain tile that has an R rating, this is a slip resistant rating and would be most advised. another note of caution, because the splashing will not be controlled, any vanity or wood based furniture will deteriorate. Definitely! I think these can work fantastically, but only if the room is large enough to carry it. Freestanding baths in bedrooms work well when the room is not already over crowded with furniture. If you have a separate dressing room and the bedroom is still large enough, then sure, they can really make a feature of the room.

TBH I'd be concerned that there wouldn't be much counter top other than the island. I'd also be a bit concerned about storage space, having just redesigned our kitchen I'm shocked at how much space is taken up with "things"- things like slow cooker, blenders etc. - food storage is almost incidental. Are you having a dishwasher? If so where would that go? I'm not a fan of free standing units unless they're the same as the rest of the units. But I know M&S have one that looks nice, I wonder if that's the sort of thing you were thinking of?

There is no reason why you can't place sinks in to free standing units. Depending on the type of sink, it just needs different adaptation, ie:- a Belfast / Butler sink needs a sturdy frame building in side the cupboard to support the weight. You also have to have room for all the plumbing. Pics would be handy and then to know which sink you had in mind. Anything is possible !

It's the drawers that are a problem. You will need to loose some of the drawers because you need quite a lot of deep plumbing under the sink. Therefore, you'd need to remove some drawers. Put construct the gap into a cupboard. But, yes it can be done, it's wood, it's all amendable.

Any type of sink can now be fitted ! You'd be surprised how many times i've done this! Just remember to factor the cost of having the cupboard amended by a carpenter before purchasing it, as amending something isn't so cheap! However, at least you get what you want! Good luck

Thankyou so much I love the idea of changing the drawers into a cupboard .never thought of that .Is it going to be a difficult job? .I also have a smaller one which I wanted to put a two ringed gas hob in the wood .

It's not so much that it's difficult, it's a bit time consuming as you have to have enough of the wood ( spare drawer fronts ) to make a cupboard door with.

In fact you probably will need extra wood that matches as you need a frame for the door, if not for that but definitely for inside to deck out the new cupboard. Same applies to the smaller one. Thankfully it's raw pine, so it's very easily available.

You will of course have a bit of extra wood from the hole that you cut for the sink, so the carpenter may be able to utilise that for the door! It also has to be finished with something waterproof by the way!

I was thinking of putting some marble around the sink will that make it waterproof ?
