Is this sofa too high for low ceilings?

I absolutely love this sofa but i know that ideally you would want high ceilings if getting sofa of this height. I will be in a new build home with low ceiling. I have been searching endlessly for a pic online of someone with this sofa and lower height ceiling and finally found one! It looks better than I thought but I'd like to know what others think - is it too much?

Dark floor with low ceiling, is it a total no-no?
Comments (8)Hi. I'm not a pro so clearly may be wrong but I thought using dark floors, combined with very light walls and a white ceiling was actually a design trick for making ceilings look higher. Having such a contrast of the dark and light tricks the eyes into making the walls seem higher. I've attached a pic of my basement which is a lot lower than your ceilings (ignore my lighting over the bar table as this is meant to be a no no with low ceilings. Mine were just so low I went with what I wanted but it does show the contrast in floor!). Combine this with other design tricks ie wall lighting, low furniture, floor to ceiling curtains, hang pictures high, full height doors etc. if in doubt, do follow One Plans advice and see your space with different flooring options so you can decide rather than making a costly mistake...See MoreHigh ceiling
Comments (7)Oh, I think we need a pro for this one as paint colour that works in the UK for reducing a ceiling height would not in a hot country! Painting the ceiling in a darker shade than the walls is an easy way to reduce height, the colour is the tricky bit! Gut feel is a light beige colour teamed with white walls with a slight beige/pink undertone. Accessorise with maybe dark brown and gold to give the cosy feel as they're not as warm as reds etc which wouldn't work in a S/W room. Hanging pendant lights and artwork low will definitely work and shouldn't require any specialist installation. What colour is all of your furniture at the moment? Definitely try zoning the room for coziness though. Hopefully a pro can verify colour though as I don't want to send you down the wrong track!...See MoreHigh fireplace / low ceiling dilemma
Comments (12)Thanks, we couldn't be happier with it! I think it'll still be okay in your room as our picture rail visually lowers the ceiling in ours. Also I often think the room would look much more balanced if it were even little wider so yours is perfect. I imagine your ceilings are just above where our picture rail is. The mirror we went for is 80cm square but we could have gone up to 90cm so hopefully that gives you a guide to the space above the mantle. We went with a the Gallery Bartello surround, Capital stove, Stovax iron fascia and custom honed slate hearth. Ended up ordering them all separately and getting an independent company to fit it all. They did a brilliant job so if you're inside the M25 I can pass on their details if you like. It was more complicated to co-ordinate than just getting everything from one place but it worked out an awful lot cheaper and I didn't have to compromise on anything (and my husband will tell you I hate compromise!)....See MoreHelp, too much of a good thing: living room too large/too much light
Comments (18)Great apartment. I would agree with the previous comment about getting an interior designer on board, preferably one whom will pass on their trade discounts! I also agree with other comments re zoning, scale etc. I'd also decide what you want to do with the kitchen before looking at the rest of the room as it's a little awkward. I don't know if it would be possible to get a flue in the roof for a suspended log burner? Alternatively which I prefer (but would get a render done first!) is to have a double sided bioethanol fireplace finished in a polished plaster to add texture. I'm not sure what the 5 doors/panels are but could they be covered in a leather/shagreen leather again for texture and interest. You're lacking walls to add art so you could look at suspending double sided art from the ceiling (last pic just to give an idea!) or add sculptures on plinth/s or an art rug (if in budget Knots rugs do some fantastic ones). I'd also look at adding pendant lights. I'd also go for the same style blinds to what they have in place now. If you add lots of textures elsewhere then curtains aren't really needed and I'm not sure they'd enhance such a great feature. Perhaps look into solar window film to make the light more bearable and prevent fading? Does the balcony wrap around as potted plants would also add privacy?...See More- PRO

7 years agoI've got a similar shaped sofa in one of my properties but I don't think it looks to bad with lower ceilings. Here's a picture.
