Ground floor dilemma - Open plan or not?
Comments (11)Thanks for your feedback. It’s good to hear from someone with a similar setup. Yes most time is spent in the lounge as it’s near the garden and is the nicest of all the rooms. The current dining room can be a bit shut away and get quite cold. If we were to change it and move the lounge to the front we know this would still be an issue but we would plan on making is cosier with furnishings. There is also an external chimney breast we would reinstate to be able to install a fire. Which as a lounge we would use, but as a dining room not so much. Yes there is a room above unfortunately but we would have two side windows facing west and the large patio doors facing south. Usually once we get to mid morning the sun fills the current lounge and kitchen through most of the day and evening, which is almost too much in the summer! But I guess in the winter that won’t necessarily be the case. Something worth thinking about I guess before deciding....See MoreGround floor dilemma. Need advice please.
Comments (7)Looks a nice big house. I think I’d live it in first and see how you use the space. I’d definitely want a larger kitchen but I think with a 4 storey house you also need a WC downstairs. There are a lot of guest bedrooms, maybe you could use one of the upstairs rooms as a laundry room and maybe another study or play room? Or consider using bed 3 (?) as a lovely ensuite to the principal bedroom. It may also be cheaper/easier to use that back bedroom as a bathroom given where the existing pipe work is. Maybe in future you could also consider extending into the side return?...See MoreKitchen floor dilemma
Comments (3)Thanks Sonia. I like the top image - we were thinking of dark units with light worktops, some natural oak elements and F&B amonite walls. I think getting the natural wood element will warm things up....See MoreKitchen flooring dilemma!
Comments (6)I actually like the patterned floor, so I'd say cement tiles or similar. Something with beige/sand in it that goes with the wood. Some blue for freshness. Orange or yellow for a bit of fun. Grey and white to go with the kitchen. Perhaps something darker to add some drama (in a good way). My semi-open kitchen has a back/white/grey/brown terrazzo floor that works really well with the pine floor next to it. I'd most certainly not continue the wood into the kitchen. And a faux wood tile may look off....See MoreSolus
