Design Dilemma Lighting Hallways

Trying to decide what lighting I can use to light a small hallway

I would prefer hidden lighting or something on the wall like an uplighter as there is not much room for a hall side table on which to place a lamp. There is no possibility to have a velux type window because it is in the middle of the house and fully enclosed Any ideas

What style do you prefer? Modern/contemporary/traditional/industrial?

Thanks. I'm looking for contemporary ideas but regarding images the hallway is currently under construction!

I think the Moroccan shades are beautiful. So lovely to have an authentic find that will have personal memories for you on display. I think the wicker shade is a little dull compared to your other light choices, would you consider painting it? A lovely Moroccan shade of blue or green perhaps? Here is a link to a wicker artist who gives advice on spray painting furniture - http://www.wickerwoman.com/articles/painting-wicker Not sure if the same rules apply for paint to a surface close to a light source but a paint specialist would know. Finally I wondered if you would consider a Moroccan style centre light - with all the angles in your ceiling a central pendant may throw some interesting patterns. Thank you all for your constructive feedback so far - I appreciate it all and it has given me some food for thought. I particularly like @OnePlans suggestion of an open cloakroom/bench, but I do also agree with @Jen P that in practice it is likely to become messy. The response I am clinging on to most is @Jonathan ... "To be fair this hallway is 300mm wider than the hall in many houses". If this is the case then hopefully our dimensions are ok?? If the dimensions are reasonable, I would prefer not to reconfigure the rooms/walls, however your responses have made me think about maybe moving the bottom of the stairs back a bit from the front door and making the full length window beside the front door wider, which will hopefully let more light into the hall and at least make it feel more spacious. Here's what I have in mind... or alternatively try cantilever stairs which will let light into the deeper reaches of the hall... I welcome your thoughts.

The light bulbs can make a big difference too, the TOWER looks great with a mixed collection of lightbulbs as shown in the photograph. Its tumbling effect is great for a hallway. Ah no problem!

For a truly contemporary look I would suggest concealed floating lighting. This is usually either achieved with a moulding just below the ceiling with LED strip uplighters or by running the LEDs around custom cut panels which use hidden fixings to 'float' it 5cm or so from the ceiling.

Alternatively you can use wall lights (you can even mount several onto another floating wall panel to create a real 'wow' factor!).

these modern wall lights i think without the extended light would really fit well in a small hallway video of selected lights or you can purchase them here but have a look first at other indoor wall lights :D
