My lounge space is awkward! What do you think of these floor plans?
Comments (21)It's a lovely light room but certainly a tricky one to furnish given the configuration of door with windows. Lesley345 is right that the easiest way to deal with it would be to consider it as a room of two halves to either side of the door. Then you can give each end a function so potentially the area to the left of the door where the TV is now could be a seating area and could take a corner sofa, while the opposite end could be more about watching the TV in the alcove and have a couple of comfortable chairs which could be easily adjusted in a situation where the TV was off and you had a larger group of friends/family around. you would then want to tie it all together by using a large rug to visually bring it all together. You could also look at having a projector rather than a TV and using the large white wall at one end to project onto. If watching TV isn't actually that important to you then you could create a seating area centrally to the room with the windows as the focal point and statement storage units/art work/piano at the ends of the room. It's not necessary to have furniture backed up against the walls and placing items centrally instead could help free up the way you consider the space. The key thing to do is to consider the activities that you want to do in the room most of the time and then decide on the furniture you need to support those activities, particularly considering ways to make things flexible and possibly multifunctional. Hope this helps!...See MoreMixture of handles and knobs in kitchen - does my plan look OK?
Comments (23)Thanks everyone for weighing in, lots of food for thought. I'm more bothered about looks than functionality (!) so think I'll stick with the shorter handles horizontal in the middle of the doors. Looks less cluttered. Still debating about the mix on wall 1 though! @ Hazel Kindley I think I got the idea for the brass plinth from Houzz! Not 100% sure how I'm going to do it yet. Will order standard plinths with my kitchen and possibly get them wrapped in brass sheet, or I may see if I can get a fabricator to make new ones. The problem is that I need two 4m lengths and don't want too many joins in them....See Morelast minute suggestions on floor plan please!
Comments (33)Assuming you have the room internally you can put your soil pipe internally and then have it exit the house below ground level to get to the drain. This avoids the worry of pipes snaking down the outside of the house. Where is the downstairs wc going to be? As this is an indication of where the drains will be dug...See MoreFloor Plan suggestions for a 1940's semi-d?
Comments (4)Looks similar our old 70s house floorplan... I kept the garage - storage/kitcar/bikes etc - garages aspect ratio make weird rooms anyway. We extended the dining room backwards into a conservatory style, and eventually would have done the same with the kitchen flush with the conservatory line... IMHO Start with a list of what you need... Only dismantle one part of the house at a time because that 'when you need to move' feeling/requirement will just crop up anytime randomly. Dining room ended up like this......See Morepete01932
