In need of beautiful and modern dog bed / furniture for our home.

HI, I know this is a bit outside of the usual, but we just moved into a beautiful new house and our dog's bed looks awful. I've googled, but thought I should ask the experts for advice on good looking luxury dog furniture. Any ideas?

Thanks guys. Comfort has been important to us. One of the reasons I like most leather sofas is that they can be quite firm and supportive. I hate sinking into a sofa and then struggling to get out. Wife likes fabric because it's more comfortable - she finds leather very cold in winter for example. But we both agree on the firmness so we have been trying out sofas. The wallpaper is generally very light - it doesn't come across as overpowering in real life. It's certainly more interesting than plain white/magnolia/cream walls. We both struggle with artistic vision so ideas and thoughts are what we both need to help decide. The aim was to have light/plain furniture and then have bright or contrasting colours for cushions, curtains and lampshades for example. Something to contrast with the "plain" decor.

We lived in a 3 bed semi until I was 11. Half of it faced due north, so there was a room we never ever used. Then we moved to a 4 bed, which we needed, as there were 6 kids. I absolutely loved the second house. It didn't face any direction fully, so it got sun in most rooms at some stage. It was on a turning circle in a cul de sac, so it looked really small from the front, but had an irregularly shaped extension at the side that was completely soundproof.( My brothers could play their music really loudly and noone ever complained). This opened out into a huge garden, which my mother made absolutely beautiful. My parents built two patios in it together and my mother built her own flower bed, using dry stone walling techniques. My parents had lots of midcentury furniture, some of which was made by my father from a book on Swedish design. You could buy the orange sofa he made now! There was a little gazebo in the garden which turned out to be a monk's cell, the last part of the abbey that had been there. A tree in our garden was pruned by a man who happened to have come there as an apprentice tree surgeon, and he was able to tell us that it had had a bench all the way around the inside. It fell down during Hurricane Charlie, as the front wall was leaning, but my father rebuilt it over the course of 9 years. My mother's style is way ahead of her time; their bedroom has been duckegg blue and brown for about 20 years!

Thanks mark so much for your kind comment. Lauren, I haven't managed to get round to it yet, but will let you know as soon as I do. Having a nightmare at the moment as found out the gable wall was dangerous so having it rebuilt at the moment, which has preoccupied me somewhat. There is no end wall on the house at the moment. Can you imagine sleeping here!? Thank god the weather is good! x Lottie

Hello. I was studying your space, and I came up with some ideas. If you are open to them, here they are: 1.Get a brushed cotton sofa with legs at least 8cm; it gives some airiness to a room, making it look more spacious. 2.When choosing a table, allow the minimum distance between the edge of your table and a wall to be 90cm. This is for people to get in and out of their chairs comfortably. In addition, purchase armless dining chairs, which will give you a clean look for your dining space. 3.You asked what to do with a wall with a small window; I suggest having sheers and curtains across the whole wall. It will soften the place and will make a room feel larger. 4.You have little spotlights on the walls, which are excellent for creating a different mood in the evening. They can be nicely framed using decorative moulding. It will elevate your space. 5.If you like a moulding wall design, you can have picture frame moulding. You can even use wallpaper inside those frames. It is a relatively inexpensive way to luxe up your space. 6.Your ceiling has an orange undertone; to tone down that orange, go for cooler undertones in your curtains and upholstery. Here I mean whatever colour you choose, grey for your sofa and a lighter colour for your curtains, look for cool undertones when choosing them. Cool undertones are blues, purples, and greens. When selecting a grey sofa, try to identify the undertone. Does this grey colour have blue, green or purple? 7. I also made a quick visualisation of your space. Please note that this only suggests the layout and the room's look. The furniture is only for guidance, and no advice is provided for the colour palette. The measurements of the room are used for illustration only. I hope it was helpful and now you can envisage your space much better.
