Help layout & plans of my open plan kitchen diner & side extension
Comments (13)Thanks for these. Im not sure if we can do the extra corner bit for number five, but I do like the layout, it will depend on cost, also don't need two tv areas, as we have a front lounge in the house anyway. the office was supposed to be a mixed use room, as a playroom with kids storage and also an occasional bedroom, so sofa bed In there. I know many people have hobs and sinks on islands, but I just think i'll end up dumping things on there.. I have four in the family, two adults, two kids, but we have a lot of people round for entertaining and parties, so space is what I'm after, but was also looking for somewhere the kids can go out of the way from adults if need be. As for kitchen, the reason for having large larder is to put not only food/drink spare fridge in there, but also things we don't use all that often in the kitchen, equipment etc.. I like everything clean and hidden away. The office on number 5 would be separate anyway as this concept includes sliding doors, which fold into the wall, so only entrance would be from outside, not sure if I can afford these yet though. Please keep suggestions coming, or alternatives, all welcome as I can't visualise.. thanks...See MoreHelp with floorplan (side and rear extension)
Comments (15)Hello Jonathan. thanks for your post. I have never seen an internal courtyard... but definitely something that would look really amazing if I can get it right. what do people use this courtyard for? any pictures you have that I can see to visualise. I don't see the wall separating the reception room and the passage (where the stairs are). practically, if we walk in the house we will be right in the living room. space wise, it is great. but practically does that work. your thoughts? thanks again....See MoreFitting all my requirements into a single side extension! Comments (20)Hello Jodie, Most welcome, I hope you saw my extension visuals too which give you a range of ideas and I like the transparency and style of the frames which lend to a feeling of open space.... The day beds are really gr8 in a room where it needs to be versatile so gr8 minds!.. The cream daybed is from ikea.. if you mean the second whiteish one with bolsters.. Something similar can be found at Loaf.. I do really like the Ikea one though as it's woven which is very nice texturally and has a really good aesthetic. and the last one which is my other favourite.. .. I think it would be rather good to have a shower element and so if not the wet room idea, you can still have something fantastic as a shower enclosure if you choose the enclosure wisely. Also you may be able to incorporate the architecture of the space in that you may be able to add a screen or something if the size fits for a walk in or other enclosed shower with single screen.. With regard to the extension you have.. you may be able to adapt it architecturally but if you like the idea of more glass then it might be better to replace altogether but of course dependent on what you choose and decide on an architectural level with the plans etc.. Budget a consideration etc.. You could though take out the existing windows and replace them with doors or bifold or sliding panels.. The arches internally are quite easy to convert to a squared off finish ie where they are situated such as the windows and doorways.. : ))...See MoreSide / rear extension layout ideas
Comments (19)It looks like you'll gain lots of space, so definitely worth playing around with plans to make use of it. I don't know how many of you live in the house or how you use your living space, but here's a few thoughts... - a utility is always worth it - no one will use a downstairs bath or shower if there's no bedroom down there, but a downstairs loo is really valuable -if a few people are sharing the upstairs bathroom, one door off a hallway is more practical and easier in terms of privacy -if you can get a small double into the third bedroom, do. Extra space for guests is always a good thing -some separate, quiet living space is always a bonus in an open-plan house. You might not get a full separate room, but dividing some of the space with a half wall will help. Or you could use an open bookcase as a divider. - storage is key in an open plan space. No point in having lots of floor space if it's cluttered with stuff, so include lots of big built in storage. I didn't really use measurements in this sketch, so I hope it's not way off......See MoreImran Khan
