Kitchen larder cupboard

I think I would like a tall cupboard for storing food in the new kitchen being designed by me.

I have planned for a 800mm wide tall unit, 600mm deep,

I am now wondering if 600mm would be too deep.

Suggestions for 800mm wide tall kitchen cupboard designs will be very much appreciated.

Do you need those little drawers under the kettle? Are they 400 wide? Could you not change that to a cupboard with a pull out bin? We have a two section bin in a 300 cupboard. One section is general waste & the other is mixed recycling. It actually takes much more waste than I thought it would. I just sort the recycling into correct containers maybe twice a week. Main recycling boxes can be kept elsewhere in a shed / small outdoor store if you have one?

You'd need to post some pics and maybe some dimensions as to where it's going so that we can see rough style and what it needs to tie in with.

Base carcases and larder carcases are 600 mm deep as standard. If you're having an 800 wide I assume you'll be having 2 doors on it as one will be rather wide to open?

I'm feeling pleased to say I have now be later in life been enjoying some of the things I'd love to have, for some time so they don't count for my 'one thing I'm still hoping for..' I love my upmarket induction hob with timer that saves my food from my memory when distracted by a phone call for a chat-length of time; no day goes by without the thrill of pulling open my kitchen's larder cupboard where the contents are so visible and high space is utilised. I agree with ? about having a bidet and have just had one installed and another wish - a walk-in shower Yeah!

Larders are great, in our last home we had one 120cm wide, with a spice rack on the back of one of the doors - I loved it. The compromise for us was to loose a big fridge freezer and instead we put a fridge and freezer side by side built-in under the worktop with the double larder on top (hope this makes sense - if I can find a picture I will post it). It was one of the best decisions we made. It would work great in your space and make access into your kitchen better.

Not entirely sure what you’re after - is this just for food storage, or extra storage for dishes etc. some of which you could display? What’s your style? There is the pull out larders like Carolina has suggested, and bespoke breakfast units. There are also freestanding larder cupboards like this. John Lewis, M&S and Laura Ashley all sell them, plus there are loads of smaller companies who can make them to your design in colour of your choosing.

Hi Daisy, yes I was imagining 2 doors, maybe some drawers too?

MATH - I will put a plan up in an hour or 2. I am going to get mum going on her soup making. Thanks for you efforts to keep me on course.

Depends what and how you prefer to store items. Drawers inside or outside could be added.

I think there's a glitch with adding photos today.

The larder unit is ok where you've positioned it. Will you be having the tall doors (normally 1245mm high) on the bottom? If you fit the 715mm door on the bottom and the tall 1245mm door on the top it'll keep the flow line around the kitchen.

What size is the drawer pack on the end of the oven run? Have you thought of a space for a bin? You might have included this on the other side of the island but personally I think it's important an allowance is left for one and somewhere to hang towels.

I see what you mean about the larder doors.

The drawer between the sink unit and the ovens is 800mm. Do you think that is big enough? I wondered about using a 90cm range cooker instead of 2 ovens, to create some more storage space.

With regard to the bin, that is a worry which pops into my head from time to time. I can place a compost bucket and a landfill bin in the 80cm under sink cabinet, but bottles and tins/plastics need a place too. That means a double bin for them. I agree that the end of the island is wrong, and best for a tea towel, especially as it is opposite the radiator (fancoil type).

Daisy England - The cabinet maker prefers drawers outside because he says they have advantages in terms of useable space.

Would a straight forward 60cm deep, 80cm wide cupboard be horrible to use?

If you feel as though the 800 wide is too wide could you swap it to a standard 600? I have a 600 wide larder unit with a chrome pull out and it's great. The pull out has 5 baskets so things are stored in an order best for my use of it.

800 wide drawers are a great size. I have these too.

By the way if you look on the Hafele website they sell bins of assorted varieties. They don't sell direct to the customer but will recommend a business who they deal with. They also have the chrome pull outs if you want to browse these too.

Maybe Daisy, I should use a 60cm pullout larder. This would release some space for a smart looking free standing paper/bottle bin. Having such a thing in the doorway would be practical, though aesthetically not ideal.

Hi Tamp75, the narrow drawers were for cups and tea and coffee etc. A little beverage centre I thought.

It might be better to put all the tableware in the island though, as that narrow corner unit would be ideal for a pullout bin with a dustpan and brush on the tray on top, like Hafele make.

Tea and coffee could go on the shelf over the kettle.

What do you think of that?
