Help. Overdone the grey colour in this room
Hi
We decorated this room about 18 months ago. Well I say we but it was the OH project and I just think he's overdone the grey. It needs something to break it up.
Obviously because furniture etc is fairly new that can't be changed but I am thinking possibly change colour under dado and lighting? OH is changing radiator to a charcoal grey one.
Could you please advise on how I can inject some personality into this room?

7 years agolast modified: 7 years agoI should have said that changing the paint colour under dado would be to a lighter grey or white. OH won't agree to another colour. He likes the neutral classic look.
Because I didn't like the room never quite got round to adding wall art/rug but this is on my list of things to do and it's in these I'd like to add colour/interest.
The pic only shows half the room. We have a bay window to the rhs n another sofa behind where I stood to take pic. To the left I have this mirror hanging up.
Can I get pictures of wall art/rugs/cushions/lighting that would look good in the room.

Comments (16)I'd go for raspberry & pink, not as harsh as red, but definitely warming. I'd be very tempted if you go for the darker curtains, to go for the same colour rug, just for a bit of unity. However, if you then put a wooden coffee table on the rug, the wood will warm it up. All the pinks above will go with any grey, Different texture cushions in paler colours will help soften the look. This rug and coffee table go well with the whole theme, softens it down, and although grey tones, when mixed in with the soft accessories, cushions, vases, curtain ties etc will look really cosy. Also like the idea of perhaps white under the dado?
Do you think sheer curtains like this or should I not bother?

7 years agolast modified: 7 years agoHi, I was have asleep this morning, so hope my comment helped. I would advise OH that this is neither neutral or classic it's just GREY. Show him the pictures you have taken and compare with some of the pictures on here. Get together and choose something to brighten the room. Here's a few pics from this website.

7 years agoGrey is a great starting point for any scheme, but you need a pop of colour. Would you consider adding a brightly coloured rug? And then picking out the accent colours in the cushions. Good luck.

7 years agoHi. I agree with Paddyart, the dado is chopping the room in half and the upper walls look identical to the carpet so there's little contrast. You could paint under the dado and the dado in a darker shade of grey. Alternatively I would paint all the wall and dado in a white with a hint of grey, crown sail white might work. Are you able to take more pics of the room? I'm wondering if there's a better layout to create a focal point or have sofas opposite each other. You could do as per the last pic but then You'd forego a bigger coffee table. I like the rug choice, what's the other colour in it? If you go for that rug, I'd just drape a pale turquoise throw over the arm of one sofa and perhaps a white sheepskin down the middle of another. For cushions you could look at pale pink, coral or orange with darker shades of grey, white with pattern and texture. Rectangular cushions or small squares may work better on your sofa but pick a shop with an easy return process! I'd also add at least one table lamp plus a floor lamp. I might also reconsider the radiator and just paint it in the wall colour to blend in. Is it a classical look you're definitely after as will see if I can find any accessories?

Floor to ceiling is 247cm, which is why we worry about long pendants as OH can almost touch ceiling n doesn't want to be bumping into the lights.
There is a beam as we extended. Far end is pendant with wall lights(which is extended area). This end is window with a mirror on the opposite wall
And it will be done on a budget as we are extending another room at the moment.

I was actually thinking to paint under the dado a white or similar colour to above dado which is similar to the pic of room you have sent, purely because the room only has 1 window. We extended but could not add another window, and I feel that corner is always quite dark and goomy.
The rug is turquoise and grey. I want to avoid pinks as I have grey and pink in my bedroom.
let me see if i can take a better pic of room. It has 3 of those sofas btw.
OH was trying to go for classic with a hint of contemporary. He likes comfort rather than minamilistic

This is the room without the pendants on. As you can see it doesn't get a lot of light. So I need to brighten that area up.
I think we've decided to paint white under the dado possibly with panelling and then a lamp in that corner, change cushions and add a rug.
