Need Help with new front door

Our extension is coming on quite nicely, but we can't decide what sort of front door would look right. The Architect's 3d drawing shows a brown door and side panels, but my wife doesn't think this goes well with our existing white UPVC windows. The front of the extension will be rendered & painted, probably white or cream.
The other new windows at the front will be UPVC, although the large arched window to the right of the door will have a leaded pattern as a feature.
I have attached a photo of the house as it currently is together with a copy of the architects impression.
We do need to let in all the light we can get or the hall will be quite dark. The solid door proposed by our Architect probably won't let enough light in, but we are hoping that the large arched window on the stairs will let quite a bit of light down into this area.
What do you think would look good and let in lots of light. We need advice on colour as well as style.

Hi Vkololgi We think a grey traditional door with narrow glazing bars would look great against your white rendering. It gives a slightly modern twist to the house without looking out of place and will let in lots of light. Good luck with your project and post some photos of the final result when all the work is done.

Thanks for the mock ups A S I wanted a dark blue or grey door. The rendering is due to be painted by the end of this year - going to go for white. I've seen all the different suppliers but I keep changing my mind between the styles. I saw the mock up app on rockdoor but it was only for iPhone.

Hi, are you in the UK? Just that I’ve never seen sand used in that way. With the path you could add small pea shingle around the paving slabs to tidy it up a bit. If that is your front garden on the left, then as Ellie suggests, planting will help. However, sand is not nutritious enough to grow plants in, unless you have the climate to grow cacti and succulents. What to grow depends on your location and whether the area is sunny or shady. A pot either side of the front door would look smart.

How about something like in the pic below. The side lights in white pick up on the UPVC elsewhere but there's still a nice contrast with the black painted front door. By having the georgian bar/lead on both the side lights and the door it's still cohesive.

I think this looks ok because the rest of the windows are Georgian style as well. Our existing windows are plain glass not Georgian which is why we are not sticking with the Architects style

I think the render is a little clinical which is not giving a very true impression of the property and how the door he's suggesting will look.. that's one thing.. but saying that I still don't think it would look great.
As mentioned above, when specifying for my clients, the first thing is budget and I also take into consideration the design inside.. after all this is the 'front', the 'entrance', the 'greeting' to your home. I would take into consideration how much light you need in the space, the colour you will have in the entrance and of course the overall style you want to achieve.

Is it just that the white and brown don't seem to compliment each other.. or do you feel that door looks dated? What styles of doors do you like? - there's lots of inspiration on Houzz to get you started.

We have allowed a budget of £2.5k for the front door & side panels. As I said before, one of the main problems is getting light into the area as the house is quite deep at this point. The lounge, hall & dining area are very much open plan, but we need more light in the lounge area via the front door & the large arched window on the stairs. I am vey flexible regarding door styles so am open to suggestions regarding style & colour except wood colour is out along with a solid door.

The renovation looks great, what style would you say your house will be when finished?

You said there will be no Georgian bars on the windows but you are adding lead detailing to the arched landing window- have you considered putting that detail on the door or sidelights as well?

We think a painted version would work better with white windows than an oak door. We have looked at a traditional six panel door which is typical of a Victorian/Edwardian style (and very popular at the moment) A traditional vertically boarded door which works well with lead detail and also a contemporary door. But there are so many different styles of doors you could opt for- it really is personal preference.

Maybe consider a 3D render of the house which will include a more lived in look. I have added some example of ones we have done to help clients with their door choices. I don't think I would go for country look myself but a nice Georgian door with panes and side lights would get plenty of light in when combine with the large window. There's obviously lots you can do in the living room it's self to increase this too. Your choice of flooring, fabrics and colour will all play important parts in how light that space is.

How about something like this to mirror the arched windows? However with clear glass and fully glazed side panels. I'd also look at black to mirror the fascias

Regarding colour, yes, wood is a no. I would go for a darker warm colour. The blue is nice in Timber Masters images or a warm dark green :)

I quite like the style of the 6th door down & think it would quite suit the house, but would have to have an opaque glass in the door as well as the side panels. Also, not quite sure that coloured door frames look right with the white windows used on the rest of the house. Thanks for the ideas
