White Carrera marble vs quartz

We really like the look of carrera marble but people keep telling us quartz is more durable? Any quartz that looks like carrera marble?

This is always a question on this forum . Marble gets a patina over time if you love the look of a counter that is not perfect there is IMO no better material than marble but if like a large majority of the population you like things to look new forever get quartz.

Have you had a look at quartz (silestone, compac, cimstone etc)? They offer a lot of white coloured stone and it has the features of granite worktops with the look, feel and touch but they come without the added maintenance of granite worktops. Wood worktops compliment light coloured kitchens but they do come with extra maintenance that if not kept up to scratch will make the wood look nasty after a while. Corian is a solid surface material that comes with various white/grey/light colourways and a key thing that makes it popular is that the joins are invisible, so it looks like one giant piece. Personal preference and a lot of pictures will get you an idea of what it is you want. There are quite a lot of options out there so make sure you take some time to research each worktop material and brand.

I don't have a Quartz worktop but i think you need to go along to the stone supplier and choose it firsthand as they can vary and it looks a lot different on a big slab. I don't know if your kitchen supplier is supplying the worktop or if you're sourcing separately? If you can I'd choose someone local if possible to cut down on installation costs. Make sure you take along the unit and floor samples too. I know lagoon is a very popular choice and I came across this a while back although appreciate it's a few years old so I'm sure there are others on the market. Had Silestone quartz worktops fitted four years ago and very pleased with durability of them. I always use chopping boards for prepping and trivets for hot pans just to be on safe side. The outer edges have been bevelled so probably helps with chipping as I have none.

We usually steer clients clear of darker worktops, but in this particular instance it feels like you need something to ground and punctuate the space a little. Keeping everything too light could leave it feeling a little bland. You don't need to go too dark, but just enough to add a bit of contrast. It will make all of your other beautiful choices 'pop'. Quartz is a great choice, but another one that we really like is Corian. It comes in a huge range of colours and also a softer soapy finish which looks like natural stone. The great advantage of Corian is that you can get it with no joins, so it instantly looks more expensive than it actually is. Hope that helps :) Warm Regards Robyn Aitch Interiors

I was in the same boat when we renovated our kitchen a few years ago. Although I originally wanted Carerra, then Calcutta Gold, then decided to scrap the idea and go with a quartzite called "White Fantasy" for the reason you mentioned, plus cost because we were not planning on staying in the house long.

we have old carrara marble mantels in our house, and our LG rococo quartz is a dead ringer for them. you'd need to be the judge if it matches NEW carrara.

Caesarstone Quartz is getting better and better regarding available patterns. However, if you properly and regularly seal real marble, the gentle wear and tear (etching, usually) might be worth it to you.

What specifically about the durability of marble are you concerned about?
