Help - traditional bedroom paint / wallpaper ideas

We have this fireplace in our bedroom; apart from this, its a blank canvas.

Really want to take influence from the art nouveau / arts and crafts theme of the tiles.

Can anyone suggest what kind of / any wallpaper and paint colours might go with this? Looking to have a feature wall of wallpaper if I can find the right one.

Furniture we have to go in the room is quite an eclectic mix of periods.

Any advice greatly appreciated!

Love it when people keep and incorporate original features.

I think you have some awesome colours to work with there. I think you could use mustards, yellows and olive colours. But personally a really dark forest green would be amazing in the room. But i wouldn't know how to set it up, just as a feature wall? I don't know.

You don't have to do a feature wall. Id love to know the furniture you have for the room.

we would love to get in there and add some shaker or beaded style of wall paneling.

Love the colour of the bed. I think I'd build your colour scheme around it with the introduction of some pattern and textures. If wallpapering I would just do the one feature wall behind the bed and keep the other walls, bedding, window dressing and accessories in white or neutral colours. It depends on what kind of look you're after. I like both wallpapers, but the first one feels more suitable for a bedroom. If you want a cosy, dark bedroom, you could pick the background colour of the wallpaper for the rest of the walls. But if you want a fresh, light and bright bedroom, simple white or periwinkle perhaps.

The wardrobes are a very traditional colour, so any other element which is also perceived as traditional may look a little 'staid'. I would consider a palette like this. Paint and Paper library Desert Rose is a lovely dirty pink beige which looks great with stronger teracotta accents and cleaner pinks. It would work with the purple colour of the wardrobe. Anything taupe would go flooring wise, just not orangey oak or pine.

There was probably a fireplace there that was removed. The idea is a vent helps to stop damp although opinion is divided about if this actually works. It will feel like there is a draft as this hole is big but if you put a grill on it the airflow will be reduced to a trickle. Search online for fireplace vents.

I think it depends on what else is going in the room. I love Kyles suggestion for a deep colour like olive but with a lot of wood this might be too much but look great with white furniture.
Alternatively you could use a neutral and use the tiles as colour inspiration for accessories to add a restrained splash of colour
