Adding colour to a white kitchen - blue window frames or ceilings?
Hi,
We are currently painting our small kitchen a cool white (likely Wevet by Farrow and Ball). I'd like to bring in a splash of colour but decided against painting the walls a colour as we already have a purple stairway which the kitchen overlooks and the kitchen itself is not that big. I am considering painting either the ceiling OR the window blue. Does anyone have thoughts on this? If it's the ceiling I'd do it light blue (perhaps Skylight by Farrow and Ball) while I thought a dark grey blue would be nice on the windows (maybe Denim Drift by Dulux). Any thoughts would be appreciated. FYI, we have wooden surfaces and off white cupboards throughout the kitchen and are getting natural bamboo blinds. I worry that painting the ceiling a darker colour than the walls will make the kitchen look smaller but I am open to anything...:) Thanks very much for your feedback. I attached a few pictures so you can get a sense of the kitchen. Please disregard all the paint samples and broken ceiling light, which we're in the process of replacing.

Paint colours for window frames?
Comments (12)Hello Jemima, There is a company that manufactures paint for uPVC. http://www.kolorbond.co.uk/kolorbond-paint-plastic-pvc-upvc There are though other ways to tackle the painting of plastic which are to first paint with a universal primer like Zinnsser Bullseye 123 and then the colour of your choice.. I like Brandi's idea of grey to match the cabinets but then I also like the brown of the french doors.. So maybe leave those as they are. If the windows grey would not suit then my second is a brown to match the french doors... If you cannot access the uPVC to paint them easily, I'd at least find out what they suggest... I personally have never worked on uPVC windows so cannot be of any help - they may have people who specialise in this area... : ))...See MoreBlack or anthracite window frames

Comments (71)Love your kitchen, you’ve done a great job, not only does the kitchen look good, it’s totally practical, drawers are the way forward, even if they are more expensive than cupboards. I’ve just redone a kitchen in a house we rent out, the old one was finally falling apart. I was going to go to Howdens and use the joiner etc we knew, but in the end we used a small local company, which cost us £300 more, but the quality of their interior cabinets and doors was so outstanding, plus they could do everything, including tiling, we went with them. One more thought. We have been discussing painting just the higher part of the ceiling blue (as the lower part really is quite low and this would break it up a bit). Do you think this could work or would it look awkward? Thank you in advance!

You are very brave painting the ceiling but I think it will be such a statement piece in your home it will definitely be worth it!
You could tie in your ceiling colour with a new window blind. Pictured below is a denim effect translucent fabric called Pacific, this is shown on a Premium Roller Blind with Pelmet but you could opt for a simple Roller Blind. Or could keep things fresh with a crisp white blind in Blossom White to match your cabinets.
