What size pendant should I choose?
We are having a 1.5m peninsula fitted with our new kitchen and I wanted to have 1 clear glass pendant above it. I know the usual advice is too fit 2 or 3 but I love the idea of have just 1 pendant. The pendant I have seen is 178mm high and 203mm wide but I have been advised by my electrician it would be too small for the peninsula. Please could I get some advice on what size pendant I should be looking for? Also the wattage? I have attached a picture of the pendant I was considering. Thanks

Comments (8)Thank you for your comments. We will be arranging the new business over the next couple of months. We will probably publish a simple website from where a brochure can be downloaded. Customers can choose which components they want in their Pendant, these can then be manufactured at the factory. Once made - a photo can be taken at the factory and sent to the customer for final approval before the item is sent to the customer. I'm afraid for custom made products, we won't be able to take them back unless faulty. From a cost perspective for custom Pendants, we are still working this out, but will be in the range of £100-£300+VAT depending on design, materials and finish. Shades will be in range of materials from Glass, Metal, Wood, Concerete, Plastic etc. If you are a designer and have a completely new shape and design that you want to have manufactured to sell in some volume (100+ pieces) - that is also possible. The factory does this for lighting designers in Europe. There will be an initial cost to design and re-tool to produce the design, but this will be your exclusive design. Obviously, your Pendants will be at wholesale rates. We will also provide LED lamps for the Pendants - standard LEDs lamps and also the atmospheric LED filament lamps. 7 years agolast modified: 7 years agoAgree with Minnie, 5 lights won't fit. To space them evenly from the wall you would be better off with 3 lights 225mm apart, that give you your 1500mm ( roughly )
I personally don't think one big light will look better. It will look like a ceiling fitting not a kitchen peninsula / island fitting.
Here's 3 spaced the size that you like:-
some examples of lamps that i think are too large, you'll feel like you're next to a ceiling size lamp:-
Above - Too wide and too low
dominating the space between ceiling and peninsula
Unobtrusive and stylish without being dominating
A lot will depend on your ceiling height too. In an average house the ceilings would be 7'6" so large hanging lights would look wrong.
I'd go for 2 or 3 of the ones you've picked, personally I think 3 is perfect.

7 years agoWhat about a bar lights? It saves you installing multiple pendants and offers plenty of ambience. In most cases the shades are relatively small and wont attract too much attention.

If you do choose to go for 2 separate pendants I'd suggest something around 20-25 cm in diameter so it doesn't look too overwhelming.
