Can you use the same tile for the wall and floor

I'm looking to use this in my bathroom and wanted to know if this can be done. I've been advised that all floor and wall tiles have to be separate but I have found photos on the web that shows otherwise.

Hi there, I can't see a picture of what you are planning to use and I think your question is whether the same tile can be used on both the floor and the walls? We always use the same tile on both the floor and walls as we feel it flows better and gives a greater sense of space. Though, we always use a larger sized tile on the floor e.g. 600mm x 600mm and a 'smaller' tile on the wall e.g. 600mm x 400mm. Hopefully, the pictures below help though a little difficult to see the floor tiles.

Hi, I can't see the photo, but make sure that the manufacturer says that the tile can be used for both floorings and walls. If you have checked that, then it's really about the look you are wanting to create.

Hi, I think this is a decision based upon how you like your house set up. I personally like a co-ordinated looks, in the sense that there's a basic layout in each room. If the rooms are small, id have yhe same floor through out but if they are larger may consider different flooring, personally speaking. Different flooring isnt bad but in too small spaces may just become overpowering or mix-match In our latest renovation, we kept the flooring the same in each rooms on the same floor but had a contrasting floor in the hallway which falls in the centre and so creates a nice divide. Hi, What are your kitchen units like? Personally I think that the mix of the floor and those bevelled-type tiles would be a bit much for me, it might be better to go for ones that echo the same design as the floor but in a more subtle way. It might be a good idea to get some samples though of the ones you like and see if you can get a bit more of an idea of what it would look like in your space. These are some more toned down marble hexagon tiles. In this kitchen they used a similar shape tile on the backsplash but kept it plain. Or - you could copy the floor!

Thanks colourhappy. I have painted some timber here which had the same stain, using primer/undercoat and that’s worked well. I have a hunch wood floor undercoat will work just as well, but I’m not sure what distinguishes it from ‘normal’ wood undercoat. Hence my slight hesitance.

You are more than welcome Teresa, glad I can help. I can now completely understand why changing the panels would be a real hassle - it would essentially be taking the kitchen apart and reinstalling. As the panels are Wenge effect then painting will not be an issue at all. Just make sure you give them a good clean and wipe over with sugar soap before applying any primer/light sanding. If you are struggling to get a good colour match to the doors - it might be worth hunting down a company that specialises in paint colour matching. Explain to them that you are looking to paint end panels I'm assuming they are laminated/MFC and they should be able to guide you on what base would be best as well as the prep work involved to make sure the panels are as hardwearing as they can be. I think a pop of pink would be fabulous! That's the beauty of making the kitchen your own and adding colour with accessories - you can have what you love and if you change your mind years down the line you won't have to redo the whole kitchen. What sort of pink are you thinking? Do you have any artwork in the kitchen that has a small amount of pink that you could tie in? With the colour palette you have any kind of pink would work well in there, from a nice dusty rose, blush pink to a hot pink (if you are daring enough). Hello,

A lot of tiles are suitable for both floors and walls - especially with porcelain, which tends to be a lot lighter. With our natural stone tiles, we say generally anything 12mm of less in thickness is suitable for the wall, although it's always best to check with your installer that the wall can take the weight.

You can use the same tiles on walls and floors as long as they are suitable and your walls can hold the weight. Many of our tile ranges feature matching wall and floor tiles that look the same but are different materials/sizes.
