1. Curtains It depend of the orientation and if you are overlooked. The double rail is a good idea to give you privacy in the evening with a second layer of curtains. Just be aware when choosing the colours of the fabric on the sides during the day, it can really suck up light and it looks like a large window. The pole could be black or copper as Minnie suggested, picking up the browns of floor and accessories. See trough curtains like light coloured veil with a simple vertical stripes pattern will maximise the natural light. 2. It also depend on your life style ... have you got pet, children or allergies? The high pile need a bit more attention. 3. Walls The kitchen can be treated as a separate space and painted in a different colour. The room is quite narrow so keep it light and preferably not feature wall on the wider side as it will make the room feeling even more narrow. A feature wall is used to bring the room's shape back in proportion. 4. Mirror above the radiator A round mirror, or a square will break the length of the room better then a rectangular one. Hi, [Have you considered changing your sofa's for 1 large L shaped sofa with all the[(https://www.houzz.co.uk/photos/have-you-considered-changing-your-sofas-for-1-large-l-shaped-sofa-with-all-the-phvw-vp~103171084) seats you need? The TV in the corner can be brought out to the edge of the corner so the person seated more towards the door can still view the Tv. By removing the 2 seater underneath the stairs, that space can be used as the children corner where toys can be parked when not in use, and even a small library (?) for them. A middle to large plant placed next to the window where currently you have a white table. Strategically place a coffee table and side table and 'fill' the rest of the room with a beautifully large high pile rug. The rest of the 'empty' space can be for where the children can expand their playing territory if you can get them off the cozy rug. If you take a picture of your curtains and look in store at places like john lewis / dunelm in their fabric department, you should be able to find something similar. Or maybe go for a plain colour, rather than pattern, you can then have your sofa cover or cushions and chair seats made out of the same matching material, as you don't necessarily have to have your furniture matching your curtains as this could look to much. Do you have a style in mind for your lounge?
