Bedroom advice - finishing touches!
Comments (45)Hello again all and sorry for the delay! i have now got a throw and started to extend my gallery over the corner. I grabbed an old chair and rug that were kicking about in my parents' garage and put them in the corner to give me some idea of what i want. actually, i kinda like the beat-up chair but i don't think the rug looks right. is it too small? Now i have the reddish throw (LOVE it... from the Avoca shop in Belfast - amazing place, if you are ever in Belfast do go!!) I am actually considering replacing my blind because i prefer red tones to the turquoise. Just not sure what I would get instead? Still need a fab lamp and more cushions but wisdom says wait for the January sales! I still think I need something more eyecatching on my vanity too... Considering a map above my bed but I don't know if it would compete with the gallery wall too much? have to say i do love the "hello" sign!...See MoreSpare bedroom advice
Comments (2)On the floorboard topic. We did in fact in one of our houses lay new 'reclaimed boards' over the top of the existing and put a membrane underneath to stop the drafts. You can also employ a carpenter to put slivers in the gaps and fill, this will work well, especially if you plan to paint the boards. I personally prefer carpets in bedrooms and floorboards downstairs just for comfort and of course heat loss especially if you plan to keep the original windows. Looking forwards:- When you come to re-sell, a sympathetic set of double glazed windows will in my opinion leave the value the same if not more than original single glazed, after all it's not a listed building. Energy reports are important and single glazed etc just won't perform well in those circumstances. Bed:- I'd go for a cast iron, victorian if we're going period sympathetic, they have the added advantage of creating the illusion of space in smaller rooms as you can obviously see under them and they don't block floor space....See MoreGold with black bedroom - lacking direction!
Comments (19)ok, I ordered some wallpaper but when it arrived it was more midnight blue and gold rather than black and gold which i wanted - albeit very nice. It wasn't right for the bedroom that we have been discussing here so I used it or another bedroom. Wow!! it was amazing. I therefore ordered another wallpaper (at huge expense!) and can now reveal my handwork today.. If you remember my initial posting it was all about linking my two bed cushions with something as I loved them so much... Well, no I am not sure they really sit well with my wallpaper.. And, still can't decide whether I need to change headboard to something more dramatic and what colour/style bedcover I should have.... and lamps???? I have become a monster!!! Thanks again for all your helpful comments - I have now ordered more wallpaper for my bedroom - cannot wait to do that... Before... After.......See MoreColour advice for master bedroom please
Comments (13)If you're quite set on going blue Avril then yes, why not try the Oval Room Blue tester - nothing to lose and it's your room, so go with what you're drawn to! Just bear in mind that it is in that column of blues on the F&B chart which have some grey and green in them so it will likely read as greener and "duller" on the wall than it does on the chart, with the lighting conditions I think you may have (it's guesswork though just having seen photos taken at one time of day, and knowing that Inchyra came out greenish). So if you do want to try some other blues alongside for comparison, you could move along to the right of the chart where there are warmer, redder undertones in the blues - eg Lulworth, Cook's, Pitch, Stiffkey Blues. I would personally find the latter two too dark in that space as it might feel a bit cave-like as it's at basement level, but it's personal preference. But if you also have that concern, you could also try some lighter/brighter ones like Blue Ground or St Giles....See MoreDaisy England
