Master bedroom re-design

We recently moved to our new house and the master bedroom needs urgent attention.

The fitted wardrobes are big and functional but their colour is too overpowering.

We need a new bed too and was wondering what colour shall i paint the wardrobes/add mirror to complement a new bed.

I am also considering wall paper behind the bed in the opposite side of these wardrobes. do you think it will work?

Hi. Yes, I would paint the wardrobes and it really depends on the colour of the other walls. If you paint them the same colour as the wall they are on then they will appear to be apart of the wall and will be far less imposing.

The mix match of woods doesn't help so I would look at changing this to have one wood and the painted if possible.

I would add height to the room to help with the look, mirror the length in the wardrobes opposite drawing your eye up the space, with taller more imposing bedside lamps.

Centralise the bed on the wall it's on and I agree paper would look lovely. Addressing the wardrobe area. The chest of drawers is out of place and needs to be set back to the same depth as the wardrobes, the shelves moved up. In face, I think it would be better with higher drawers than currently there. However, pushing the current ones back and then painting everything will look a lot better.

regarding guests above the main bedroom, I respectfully disagree; I think bedrooms should be kept private, certainly not joined to a guest's bedroom we do need dimensions to proceed though what if you fitted the office above and closed it off, perhaps with a retractable screen, so you wouldn't disturb the person sleeping. the downside is that you are combining work and relaxation into one area, so it's not the best solution. which means... if there's not enough space above, and I do doubt that there is, rather get a wall of closets in the bedroom, and change there. It would also save the inconvenience of stairs; think of times you forget items and have to go up and down repeatedly, times you're deciding what to pick out and need space to arrange clothing options, times you're packing closets, or exhausted after a long day out, the option of a mezzanine dressing room loses some appeal to me. Another option though, is to have closets in the bedroom for daily clothes of the season, and some above for other seasonal and occasional clothing

Hiya, Ok so I've converted your measurements into mm so these are equivalent to ft, in drawing we use mm. So I think you will need to close off two windows to the east side to get a decent size walk in wardrobe. I've tried to leverage the longest wall in the bedroom without losing too much floor space. I've added your bed with some bedside tables and as you can see you have plenty of space still around you. Keeping the south side patio doors as that will give you light throughout the day. In terms of your walk in wardrobe I played with different sizes and came up with 50-70-50mm dimensions, you could go bigger or smaller as you have plenty of room. Although I would allow 1metre gap between your bed and the wardrobes otherwise it could get a bit crammed. Also think it would be useful and nice to have a little seat to put on shoes etc. you could even add a seat on the opposite side if you wanted. Allowing to entrances to your walk in wardrobe allows light to flow from one side to the other and it doesn't block your patio doors either. I've added lots of dimensions hope this helps! Thanks, Jonathan. Your suggestion is excellent so thanks for taking the time to put that together. The walk-in wardrobe and en-suite would be luxurious, and it's great to have some hallway storage but we weren't that keen on such a small back bedroom (it could be a maximum of about c.3.4m x 2m, by my estimates, due to where the soil stack is, 30cm to the west of the current bathroom window). However, it got us thinking. A third toilet (particularly a WC) would be handy as both me and my wife work from home and would have, COVID allowing, clients visiting regularly. I came up with this spin-off from your design and wondered what you thought. What do you think of this? Is there another way to make the 2 other bedrooms double rooms?

I like this change ! The only thing I’d suggest would be to centralise the bath to the bed and window ... and remember - no electrics within 3m of the bath !

thank you guys for very helpful advice. I have couple of question.

Re the mirrors on the wardrobes doors, would it look better if i install them install them in all 4 doors ?

I am investing in new bedside tables and small dresser, would it look better if they matched the colour of the wardrobes ( newly painted)? or I can get away with two different colour wood, as long as the wardrobes are painted in a neutral colour ( egg white/cream/light gray)?
