Advice on sitting room paint colour and curtains please

I have just put busy wallpaper on all my walls which I regret but will have to put up it with now. I was inspired by this look:

I wanted to recreate the warm feeling but not the busyness of the it and have failed abysmally because all I did was buy the wallpaper. I also would want it to look fresher but don't have the budget for major changes

I've gone with Laura Ashley summer palace in linen:

However 3 walls have framing so can be painted on the bottom but I don't know what colour to paint it.

-I like F&B inchyra blue - which I bought but has reassigned because with all my stuff it looks too dark, cold and not especially nice with my dated furniture

-I also bought the matching laura Ashley pale linen paint originally but don't like it as its very dingy. I considered dulux summer linen which is nicer but think it might be too much beige and brown going on for my liking

- I'm thinking about dulux blossom white which I like but its a pale pink so don't know if that will be overkill and sickly. I also really like F&B oval room blue but I'm hesitant because it makes the room feel quite cold. Should I just go for white and if so what would you recommend?

I think I'm supposed to find a matching undertone but am not really sure what that is as looks a bit of everything to me. Its not an inherently dark room as has a large window but is north east facing and has a lot of dark oversized furniture which has to stay

The room is stuffed with junk so am too embarrassed to show it all but this is the fireplace the coffee table is rectangle and similar colour. The sofas are the dark leather bulky recliners the room has a chair as well as a 4 and 3 seater sofa - all matching! I have a solid oak floor though and a gold mirror which I really like but that's in the garage. I really dislike the matching sofa set but do think all the brown helps to ground the wallpaper a bit

I think I want blue curtains but don't know what kind of shade I should look for also should I go for really bright cushions which I like. Or should I get white wooden shutter to tone down things a bit I don't really like roller blinds though. I kind of want to keep the floor plain as I like it and am worried that if I put a rug down it'll get too busy and break up the room even more. I don't know if that's okay though as I have different wood colours. I would have avoid a light plain rug as it just would last more then a day in our house. So if I need one what would you suggest?

Anyway sorry for such a lengthy post its my first. I would really appreciate some advice please as I'm going insane trying to work out how to make this less of an OAP room but still cosy and am getting sick of looking at colour charts

Could you post a picture of the room, or a couple so that we can see the whole thing?

try F&B borrowed light a pale warm blue, oval room blue to me is too heavy a colour for this delicate paper

Hello headers13, Looking nice! Not much of a mess at all! Normally I'd suggest the idea of dark chimney breast and lighter walls.. Since you have dark cabinets going in then perhaps consider the other way around.. Usually alcoves are better lighter as they then look further away.. Chimney breast to the fore.. Standing out with a beautiful mirror.... I normally don't recommend shelving in alcoves either.. Just a personal taste.. However.... What about approaching it with the idea of scale colouring.. with dark at bottom and working it's way lighter up the shelves.... So you could have dark chimney breast and dark bottom shelves and gradually take the shades up till you get to a creamy white at the top... Ceilings are really gr8 in Whitening by Little Greene.. It would give it a different feel and this style of painting is really in.... You can do it with walls too, see image... Also to lighten the look of the shelving... consider darker and fuller shelves at the bottom and lighten towards the top... This creates the idea of openness with the shelving, thus giving the fireplace the focal point it deserves... : ))

Thank u all for the wonderful suggestions. You r all amazing& really helping me. This curtain choosing is tough but i have it down to 2- see attached.want a wow factor in the room and something that will last a long time So for pic 1 - thinking of curtains in the pink thistle both ends of the room with blinds in the light grey material either side of the fireplace trimmed with a pink,green border (border colours same as curtains)? Pic 2- all 3 small windows in blinds made with the large pink fabric. Curtains for the french doors in the plain grey material for the bottom 3/4 bordered with the larger pink trim on the top so it ties in with the blinds? We just repainted the room a few wks ago from a grey to thr cream that is on it so i dont think we have the time for a 3rd repaint

Thanks Colour Happy. Plasterer has been in already but only plastered where needed so I'm assuming that means we don't need to plaster behind wall paper (some of which had to be removed for the rewiring) and Painter seems happy enough to do remainder of filling/smoothing walls but thanks for the tip, I'll definitely check again with them. Re sisal, no dogs but small kids at home so need to stick to softer/more standard carpet!

What are your parents into - calm or patterns and rich colours? The corner of the room in your picture looks quite unfussy - so a focal point of patterned curtains could be fine.

First thing that makes the paper too busy is the stuffed room. So declutter. If nowhere else to put it, find a spacious cupboard/drawers. Paint it Yeabridge Green for example. Don't design around a sofa set you don't like. Find some pillows, rug and blankets that go well with the paper and floor. Make yourself a moodboard with curtains and such and then decide.

Here are some F&B paint colors that could work well (I've tried them all, would not advise any other). Personally I like the first three on the left. But haven't seen your room (and taste), so no further suggestions..
