need help designing a open plan kitchen, living, dining area
Comments (6)Hello Jeannette, what a lovely project! I've worked on a number of bungalows and they have their own unique challenges. Making the spaces work for our needs today, and for your own family needs have to be the priorities. I would suggest you appoint an interior designer before thinking in detail about the kitchen. An interior designer will find out how you want to use the space and come up with clever floor plan that is workable and beautiful. This is going to be a really important investment for you. I would love to help - I couldn't advise in any detail without seeing the property and of course, without meeting you. Very best wishes Yasmin....See MoreNeed help with design ideas for my living/dining room
Comments (16)Have you thought of rearranging the furniture so the tv isn't the focal point? Furniture against walls can make a room appear smaller. If the budget permits I would add a coffee table to bring furniture into the middle of the room. I would also add a mirror to the dining area to bounce light and maybe install a low hanging pendant light over the table. I would also choose a neutral coloured rug as using a single colour for an item becomes the focal point. Grey is a good modern neutral for walls. If you want to use paper on a smaller wall choose a small pattern that won't date unless you don't mind repapering to keep it up to date. There are some really fantastic papers around at the moment such as chinoiserie, bold contemporary and typography but it depends on your preferred style? Maybe use plain (not patterned as this may date or your taste will change) velvet or silk curtains to soften the room. Use different colours and textures for the accessories to avoid block colours as per comment above. Pattern/interest can also be added in the form of wall art....See MoreDo I need a designer or an architect for my kitchen?
Comments (9)If the kitchen company don't have a design service they must have had drawings from other professionals before- surely they would make a suggestion? The person in question could be various types of building professionals, interior designer, architectural technologist, architect, surveyor- anyone who is skilled in the design and production of technical drawings. If you want them to interpret your aspirations and needs- that honestly is down to the individual- technical skill and understanding of clients is not the same thing, so you should talk to a selection of people before choosing someone. For your peace of mind they must have insurance to cover their work- Professional Indemnity- thus they are covered and the rectification is covered should they make a mistake- the kitchen doesn't fit for example because they got a measurement wrong. If you need structural calculations you will need a structural engineer. If you have a trusted builder and they trust a particular architect- word of mouth recommendation is worth a lot. Best of luck....See MoreNeed help with my kitchen design for rear extension
Comments (11)Definitely no way!! You would regret losing part of the view to the garden. And it just doesn't make sense to have a bathroom off kitchen. Either do as bagpuss' plan above, or use that whole space for a shower/ bathroom if you need more facilities. If it was me, I'd like a utility area somewhere, perhaps you could combine this with shower room? Or have two separate rooms, wc and a single wall utility. If you do any laundry at home it is useful to have a dedicated space for this. Mine is approx 1.5m square but I'd be lost without it!! Attached pic of one Houzz one I like (seems to have popped into the middle somehow!) Wouldn't have to be this big even. And although it depends on your budget, I'd definitely try and get a pitch roof or a lantern in that ceiling to let in more natural light....See MoreDaisy England
